please remember that ‘queer’ has been a fully reclaimed, non-slur identity for decades now

Reclaimed for decades, huh ... strange, I've only been hearing it claimed as a non-slur for the past few years, and by non-LGBs.

queer studies is a legitimate academic term

It's an academic term, really ... source, please. Using fascism to overwhelm and silence academia doesn't mean you've made slurs "legitimate".

it’s only been in the last decade that TERFs have pushed to reclassify it as a ‘slur’ starting in online spaces

TERFs are the only ones using the word poorly ... are you sure? Like REALLY REALLY sure?

'Cause last time I heard it IRL, it was sneered at my straight male friend and immediately followed by "faggot". It sure as shit wasn't a RadFem doing the talking, and no one even mentioned trans, let alone trans-exclusion.

people that don’t want to be called queer don’t have to be

Great, I'm glad we agree on something! Now about those people you're lumping into the "queer" umbrella without their consent ...

queer is a valid term with decades of history

Well, you ARE right about there being decades of history, I'll give you that. "Valid", on the other hand ...

millions of proudly self-identified people

I think someone may be exaggerating, just a teensy-weensy bit.

Lol right? When they wanna say something positive about gays/lesbians it's always "a queer person", "a LGBTQ+ person", etc. At least in the Gaybros sub I've seen reactions to that, sometimes people post something positive about "a LGBT man" and some of the comments will be like "so is this man lesbian, gay, bi and trans all at once?".

But when they want to criticize and mock others, suddenly it's "the gay community", "the lesbian community", etc. I remember months ago seeing a case on twitter of someone who saw a guy being rude with his mother while showing gay stereotypes. The person made a criticism of gay community as a whole because of that, saying that gay men are rude and mysoginist etc. Funny how at times like this it's ok to assume gender (what if he was non-binary or trans?) and it's ok to assume sexuality (what if he was bi or queer?).

Ok wow that's actually really true. There is a ton of bashing specific sub-communities but only positivity for the vaguely-defined "queer" people.

Yeah, wtf???
