It's not as easy, tough guy. Us women are hardwired by both biology and society to comply. To be nice. To not be aggressive. Again: both our very biology and society as a whole makes us women like this.

Assertive women are hardly popular, aren't they? Society hates those. And when you're the weak gender, and a bunch of thugs from the strong gender come to harass you and yell at you, and you're just a teenager with a not fully developed social consciousness, sometimes all you can do is bow and beg for them to stop.

This young girl needs support. Can someone link her to this thread? Perhaps reading our comments and the comments on that Twitter thread will cheer her up.

It’s never been easy for LGB, lesbians are hated for a reason, and it’s because we have had to toughen up. She will get there eventually. Being LGB in this world means you have to be resilient and resist, I think this new generation didn’t have to fight as much, which is great, but also keeps them quite vulnerable. It’s not an easy life and they do need support, it’s true. But they also need to toughen up. Womanhood is not a popularity contest, especially not being a lesbian.

There's also just the rude awakening of discovering that some people in the world love being terrible, and they don't all come with warning labels, or if they do, it's sometimes in the form of red flags that might not seem like signs of danger until you know better or have learned the hard way. She's getting that full blast right now from multiple attackers, which makes it even harder.

It’s definitely a loss of innocence. I think lots of these women are accepted with open arms and feel like they have a community and find out its conditional. That is a very depressing thing, and she’s probably trying to make it okay for herself so she can get the nice feeling back. Like when a loved one hits you and you blame yourself.

Thankfully I never wanted to being part of any community. The good thing about being super introverted lol

For sure. She's now caught in an abuse cycle. :( I hope it's a short one.

And I do think you have a point that thanks to the work of their forbears, it's probably been easier for some young women to be accepted as a sexual minority than it was for earlier generations, which easily could set them up to not see this coming or be adequately circumspect. Having to be wary really sucks but crappy people are not going anywhere, clearly—look at all of the young ones doing all this damage now.

The change now is that the abuse coming from within the community is just as strong as the hate from fundamentalists toward our community. Not only do the TRAs hate their own, but they hate the whole world and expect all of us to change for them.

LGB have always been assholes to eachother here and there because we are different in many ways, but we were never willing to cut off the whole community’s nose to spite its’ face.

Which walks these unwitting kids right into a trap. The TRAs are adept at love-bombing. That's the bait. Like every predator they look for vulnerable prey, suck them in, and never let them read the fine print.

There is so much wisdom in this thread.
