You are overestimating skills and web-knowledge of an average internet lurker. Some will hide, for sure, but not everyone. And some may want nsfw still be out there, as nsfw is not only pornography, but politics or questionable topics too.

When you make an account on reddit, it nsfw is automatically turned off. So arguably it's harder for those average internet lurkers to find that toggle that turns it on and see the nsfw posts.

I just use reddit mostly to talk in subs that are about the rare disorder that I have which have been helpful, and on the nsfw subs to do erotic roleplays which have been loads of fun. Who would have thought me and some random writing partner would end up writing 200.000 words in 3 months.

Well, it was supposed to be a smut story, but they only ended up having sex once! It was mostly romance. But you're right, it is book sized
