“She’s been known to threaten people who criticize her with lawsuits.”

She threatened to sue one man (Nicola Spurling) when he claimed she couldn’t be trusted to be around children. Apparently threatening to sue for obvious slander is not allowed now because trans.

Loved it! It just goes to show how the vast majority of people are actually by our side. The thing is many people aren't even aware of what's actually going on still. Joanne Rowling, I love you

This exactly -- gives me hope to see so many people standing up for her

I have reread her essay at least ten times and still what she said wasn't hateful. Online, I have found that many people who call her transphobic haven't even read what she wrote because other people told them their own version and they "don't want to give her website views". One said she called trans people "disgusting" she didn't. Many people probably agree with what she wrote but are afraid of being bullied or doxed online.

Since this happened, whenever I say pro-JKR things in r/books, I get loads of upvotes. I think it skews older and more pro-free speech than the rest of reddit. They have to keep locking the threads or the truth comes out.

edit: Oooh, someone finally got to contradict the lie about Maya "harassing a trans co-worker" before the thread got locked. Every time I try to correct that lie, I can't post.

It's ironic in a subreddit about books that people don't seem to have read the essay at all. There are comments where they mention JKR giving misinformation, but they don't actually quote what the misinformed part was nor why it was inaccurate.

Since it became a default sub /r/books became essentially /r/reading. It was filled with discussions of the same ~12 super popular books, and any time anyone recommended a book it was YA, sci-fi dreck.

Otherwise it was inane questions like “what do you use as a bookmark?” or “DAE childish helplessness when picking a book?!”.

For most people there, their identity as ‘someone who reads’ is far more important than doing any actual reading, and when you have moderators who’ve drank the woke Koolaid, it’s not hard to see why.

I fucking hate /r/books, it had so much potential.

I find this sad and analogous to the way the gender identity movement compares to lgb.

Oh my God you're right. I never thought about it that way before.

Keep banning. Keep seething. Keep peaking people. Leftists are too stupid to realize they're hurting themselves.

[–]Archie 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Please don't generalize TRAs as "leftists". Lots of us never heare about their bullshit or have peaked as well, thanks. This kind of saying on this place could be higly damaging for spreading the ideas of this sub.

[–]SeasideLimbs 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Most TRAs are very clearly left or far-left, given their support within those spaces, their adoption of communist ideology and their use of postmodernist rhetoric. I will extend an olive branch though: given how insane TRA rhetoric actually is, I think one could reasonably make a case for them not technically being left-wing. Especially the overlap the male trans community has with incels is a clear case of horse-shoe theory. I would be open to such an argument. And then of course there's the cases where some of them, again particularly male trans people, straight up identify as nazis and far-right. So I'd agree with you to some point, but it's still undeniable that TRA ideology is very clearly a left-wing ideology, though one that conflicts with some other left-wing ideology. (After all, nobody would argue radical feminism not to be left-wing despite its friction with many other left-wing ideologies.)

[–]Archie 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Oh, there i no doubt that a large number of TRAs are left or far-left.

BUT the opposite isn't true at all. The vast majority of the left isn't made of TRAs and it isn't going to be when they see what those assholes are doing. As you rightly say, radical feminism itself is left-wing and they're kind of the left's spearhead against TRAs among our ranks.

I see we generally agree so I just want to make my point clear: calling TRAs "leftists" risks to alienate leftists who read this sub, when they are the people that we need to peak the most.

Oh, yeah, I get what you mean now. You're 100% right!

This reminds me... Richard K Morgan (Altered Carbon books) is a "TERF", pro-JKR AND got banned from Twitter over it. Strangely I haven't seen his reddit fanbase mention this.

I haven't read or watched Alterned Carbon but apparently you can body swap in them and then for some reason the trans brigade came after him? I wasn't really paying attention but I would have thought trans ppl would have liked body swap fiction.

Yeah, they are everywhere. On goodreads site, they were under the post of her new book telling others how bad was LMAO. They cannot stand the fact she's still selling great. All their time is spent stalking JK content. So pathetic.

Irreversible Damage by Abigail Shrier hasn’t been released in the UK yet, but, predictably, the Amazon page has been filled with several competing 1 or 5 star reviews decrying it as hateful or wonderful.

While I’m inclined to believe the 5 star reviews, it’s not out in this country yet, so unless these people went out of their way to order a copy from America or Canada (unlikely) or are North American readers who’ve specifically created Amazon UK accounts for the sole purpose of leaving negative reviews of books that aren’t published yet (wouldn’t put it past them) then I have to assume that people are reviewing a book they haven’t read, with which I disagree on principle.

edit: spelling of author's name

It’s not even out yet. And JKR is too popular for arcs to be given out pretty much at all.

[–]kwallio 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Some of those comments are pretty reasonable and relatively pro-trans but still got removed? Wow.

That's likely to be this movement's undoing and I'm here for it.
