Because that is totally not a complete waste of goddamn time.

Believe me, people will let you know their preferred pronouns, just as people will let you know they are poly; right away and every 5 minutes for the rest of your life. Lol.

This whole ‘preferred’ pronouns being a life or death situation is so ridiculous and melodramatic. The fact there are doctors encouraging this nonsense is really worrying.

how many lgb care about pronouns really?

I've gotten called 'sir' a couple of times in my lifetime, and my reaction usually ranged between 'Hohoho he thinks I'm a sir!' to 'What? Really? I don't even look like a sir today??' But I guess that comes for not being so fucking insecure that your entire world crumbles because someone looked at you and got confused.

This encouraging of T to crumble anytime they get misgendered/not validated is so toxic. Like it's toxic for the rest of us but it's doubly toxic for the T's themselves. Butch women/Feminine men have been dealing with getting misgendered for at least well over a century, and I've never heard of that kind of misgendering being associated with suicidal ideation.

Most don’t give a shit. It’s only the attention seekers that use ‘they’ or other made up pronouns to refer to themselves that care.

Problem is, we are forced to give a shit because these attention seekers are allowed to speak over us.

It's kinda weirder considering that this whole thing started in English speaking languages, where gender is only relevant for a few words. Even if you actually care about gender, it's quite easy to talk in a neutral way.

It's like the whole Latinx deal. It's obviously absurd, but if they really wanted to use a gender neutral term... They know Latin American already exists, right?

The number of guys on Grindr with their preferred pronouns as "attack helicopter" or a similar joke (at least in my area) is uplifting. It's not too many, but it's more than you'd think

Is the doc a tran?

[–]xanditAGAB (Assigned Gay at Birth) 23 insightful - 1 fun23 insightful - 0 fun24 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

"Many of these patients struggle with mental health issues, like anxiety, he said, but a recent U.S. study found that those that had at least one supportive adult in their lives – were 40 per cent less likely to self harm."

Those are the statics for trans people... yet this article says lgbtqi+. Because that's who this nonsense is really for, and about.

[–][deleted] 15 insightful - 3 fun15 insightful - 2 fun16 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Many of these people struggle with mental health issues like living in a complete fantasy world.

Remember when we used to have to argue with conservatives that we weren’t mentally ill? It’s great the left is just deciding we’re mentally ill again.

"You could save a life" says the doctor, or take one by being stupid enough that you can't tell the difference between gender dysphoria and homosexuality.

If anyone can be bothered to make a complaint to the editor for putting up this shit, it can be made here : news@stl.co.nz , but I I doubt that they would listen.

Always ask "LGBTIBQQ" people their pronouns?

But;

  • Lesbians don't need "preferred pronouns", they are women, so are referred to as she.
  • Gay men don't need "preferred pronouns", they are men, so are referred to as he.
  • Bisexual people are either men or women and have nothing to do with trans.
  • Intersex people don't need "preferred pronouns" and most of us just want to be seen as normal people, so chances are if you ask an intersex person what our "preferred pronoun" is, we're going to assume you view us as an "other" that gets to choose it's "gender" and we'll think you're a massive asshole for it.
  • WTF is the second B for?
  • Questioning people don't need to be asked their pronouns. Most questioning people are struggling and the last thing they need is some pompous shitbrain asking them a trivial "woke" loaded question like that.

WTF is the second B for?

Sorry that's my fault for rushing to post this before I needed to be somewhere and then not copy checking that I had not made a typo.

Should be LGBTIQBBQ, which mocks the never ending additional letters that are added to the end.

I'm 100% on board with adding BBQ to the community. At least BBQ would improve our image in rural areas/the South lol.

While: YUM... there's also the danger that this could add a whole new source of conflict! So on top of the flak that we LGB are already getting from the TQ: Barbecue Wars!

Cuz it's different in every region (Memphis wet vs dry-rub vs Texas vs Kansas City etc....). And EVERYONE'S is the BEST. Oh, you like yours better?

[Insert "Let them fight" GIF here]

Still way less dumb than all these blitzkriegs over fuckin' PRONOUNS, though!

[–]fuck_reddit 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Easy! We have regional chapters which make the regional variants, have cookouts, etc. then we have an annual conference where everyone comes and makes their region variant! Everyone gets BBQ and can decide for themselves (and keep it to themselves) which type is best lol.

GOD WHY?! I don't GIVE A BLOODY F*CK ABOUT PRONOUNS. Why do I have to be lumped with these TQ+arojsodjsgl lunatics ugh

It's weird enough that they try to do this for trans people, but it's understandable, considering that we are forced to walk on eggshells around them. But why would anyone need to ask a gay person his or her pronouns when he or she is not trans? I get the feeling that people like this doctor do not see gay/bisexual men as real men or lesbians/bisexual women as real women. Because if they truly did see none heterosexual men and women as men and women, they'd be asking straight people what their pronouns are as well. I find it insulting that someone would be unsure what my gender is just because I am gay - might as well call me Miss RedEyedWarrior while this dipshit is at it.

I remember the good old days when you knew a person's gender just by looking at him or her. Can we go back to those days, please?

If a doctor ever asks me my pronouns I’m getting a new doctor. They’re clearly a moron.

Their was a transwoman who claims that he got a papsmear and the doctor said she couldn't tell the difference between his neo vagina and "cis" women. One woman replied "if my gynecologist can't tell the difference between a real vagina and one created from an inverted penis, it's time to find a new gynecologist."

Um, in English, when you're addressing ANYONE directly, aren't their pronouns always just... you/you?

All the "preferred" ones are third-person, so... what does it even matter, genderspecials? SINCE YOU WON'T BE PRESENT TO HEAR EM ANYWAY

Simply asking patients about their preferred pronouns can save their lives

True

I was about to have a heart attack but then the doctor asked for my pronoun and i was cured!
