This is completely ridiculous.

Tomorrow (31/07) is JK Rowling's 55th birthday. She is a beloved author who lived in Edinburgh for many years. Obviously we know why Posie Parker did this, and good for her, but why can't we proclaim our love for a favourite author without having our motives questioned? It's almost like it's one rule for one group of people, and another rule for another...

Eventually the majority of people are going to peak and the backlash will be astounding. People will have so much explaining to do when that happens.

paid for by a prominent opponent of transgender rights

Nope, paid for a prominent opponent of transgender propaganda. Forcing others to lie is now considered a "right."

This is particularly why I wonder if we shouldn't call them something else? Being opposed to a 'trans rights activist' sounds... questionable, since nobody wants to deny 'rights' to anyone. I know it's an offshoot of 'mens' rights activist' but again, I worry that only small pockets of internet people know what MRAs are actually interested in.

My vote goes for 'trans ideologues' or 'little inquisitors'.

I’ve been thinking that we need to revamp what we call TRAs. Ideas:

Trans Privileges Activists

Gender authoritarians

Genderizers

Colonizers

Trans Colonizers

Gender Colonizers

Transjackers

Gender Hijackers

Genderjackers

Genderists

Transplainers

Cry-Bullies

Transvaders

Trans-tators

Inclusivists

Gender-Sensitive

Transclusivists

Trans-cluders

How about "trans radical activists"? We'd get to keep calling them TRAs, too, but they wouldn't sound so cute. Plus it's accurate.

We do not allow advertising that is likely to support or promote one viewpoint over another.

Is that not what ads are?

[–]tarun 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Kellie-Jay Keen is a god damn genius. She knew that this, at the very least, would spark a lot of controversy. A simple ad expressing your love to a beloved author, around the time of her birthday. How could that be considered hateful? Well, l in the world of trans propaganda, it is.

This gets a lot of attention because of it being taken down, not because it was put up in the first place. Thus it will help peak a lot of people. This was exactly what she wanted.

Just like the dictionary definition of woman ad she put up that was taken down, which was even more ridiculous.

Anything can be hate speech now, and that is exactly what Kellie-Jay set out to prove. Genius.

I'm crowdfunding an 'I am ambivalent about Agatha Christie' poster for King's Cross.

[–]JizeraStraigth ♂ 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

This was a very prudent act; instead of one poster at a local railway station, they have many articles in various world famous online newspapers and links to the articles are spreading in Internet making people upset in the whole world. If buying and reading a book by JKR becomes a significant provactive political act I will feel obligated to buy some of her books as well and walk streets with them in hand, despite I am too old to read Harry Potter.

She's written a couple (?) of other books outside Harry Potter. The Casual Vacancy is the only one that springs to mind but I believe there are a couple of others.
