"...live again as female - the gender they were assigned at birth."

Female is not a gender, it is a sex. Sex is not assigned, it is observed.

Clearly the BBC is pushing propaganda. They know better.

no...they don't know better. They believe it.

The doctors told them everything was reversible but they are saying the voice change and other things are not reversible. They need to sue. This is so fucked up. The more these lying doctors get sued and lose their licenses and reputations, the more doctors will wake the fuck up and stop fast-tracking teenagers through transition.

This seems like a overly complicated way to do lesbian

These stories are so chilling. This story was published in March. Public discourse is so stifled at this point that I doubt BBC would publish anything like this again. That Nele believed her options were really transition or suicide - how many times have we heard that false binary? Harmless and reversible my ass. Getting a double mastectomy at 17, permanently changing your face and your voice, all of the time you lost when you could have actually been working on healing? Absolutely not harmless.

It's scary how familiar all of the feelings that Nele expressed are. What lesbian hasn't felt all of those things? We are already seeing the current environment that is so hostile to lesbians push lesbians to claim any other identity to escape it. And the shame, disgust, and discomfort with your body being objectified while society also telling you the many ways in which it will never match up -- what woman hasn't had those thoughts?

"I was afraid of ending the hormones and going back to my body. I didn't even know my natural body because I transitioned so early." Jesus.

And the next story recommended at the bottom of the article: 'I hated my homophobic stepdad, then he came out as trans.' What a surprise that story is. A gay boy's homophobic step-father is an autogynephile.

I saw the next article too and thought: guess what? He's still homophobic!

The idea that any medical procedure is "harmless and reversible" needs to be expelled from the cultural zeitgeist. I understand saying "harmless" for extremely simple procedures (like idk, getting a mole removed or a tooth pulled) that are ancient, regularly practiced, and less than 1% rate of any complications. But no medical procedure that involves cutting is reversible and many that rely on medication are also irreversible. It's just blatant deception (and imo child abuse) to tell 16 year olds they can take hormones and its "harmless and reversible" Also omg, the next story... color me surprised... NOT!

They were always lesbians.

Lesbians have been accused of wanting to be men for ages. Coupled with female puberty and realizing you're lesbian in a sexist world and you have a recipe for girls and women who desperately feel like they are "wrong," who will look for a way to "fix" themselves. They don't need fixing. It's our society that needs to change how it views gender nonconforming women, men, and children. Why are doctors so eager to transition literal children and vulnerable adults? (Could it have anything to do with paychecks? Hmm...)

These women deserve all the happiness in the world.

Good for them for detransitioning and living their true self.

And for those who say taking hormones doesn’t have any permanent effects, this article debunked it when they mentioned the voice hasn’t returned to normal. But what do we know? 🤷‍♀️

Gods I hope more young (in this case) lesbians read stories like this, how the internalized homophobia and sexism led them to the wrong conclusion and are able to learn from it, despite the torrent of pro-trans rhetoric on the internet.

How the fuck does it take a BBC article about two traumatized mistreated women in 2020 to point out that "liking basketball and girls" does NOT make you a boy, or not-a-girl??

I'm actually shocked the BBC published this.
