You know it's bad when furries have to explain basic biology to people

i thought those lions looked pretty furry-ish XD

Someone in a fursuit cheerfully teaching basic biology to kids sounds wholesome enough tbh especially with "drag queen storytimes" being a thing lol

I mean this also isn't accurate...the trans idea of "gender" is stupid, but that doesn't mean sex and gender are the same thing. Sex is your physical body and biology, gender is stereotypes and societal expectations.

This diagram, by showing the male lion being blue with big muscles and the girl lion as being pink and demure, is also reinforcing damaging gender stereotypes and is no better than what the TRAs are doing. They're just two sides of the same coin.

Agreed. I think this is a step in the right direction but not quite there yet.

I'd personally define sex on which gamete (sperm or ova) that the body is designed around making in order to clear up that changing your bodily appearance with SRS or hormones doesn't change your sex. A modified penis is not a actual vagina and modified vagina with arm skin slapped on it is not a penis. One will still have male/female bone structure and without constant medication, one's body will still slowly attempt to revert back to their natural born sex.

The only case where it makes sense to "assign" sex is for intersex people and even then, intersex people can still accurately be labeled male or female most of the time (i.e. most intersex people still have reproductive systems/bodies that correspond much more to one of the two sexes; there are zero cases of true hermaphrodites with functioning reproductive organs of both sexes).

Also I generally agree with the sex =!= gender thing though I did once read an interesting interpretation on a GCdebatesQT forum that argued sex == gender. Basically what they argued was that even if a man performed the "female gender" expectations such as wearing a dress and "taking care of the home," that still wouldn't mean they're female gender but rather a subset of the male gender. Basically how they defined gender was based off what sex a person/society perceives you as (e.g. wearing makeup and wearing dresses as a man just places you in a subcategory of the male gender, just not the stereotypical one which is why two people of different sexes doing the same thing are treated differently)... or maybe I'm just too far down this rabbit hole...

Where I live, there's no distinguishing between sex and gender(well, not in the public), and men wearing makeup isn't odd. We see it in the GC way, I guess, a man wearing a dress doesn't mean he's doing feminine, it just mean he wears dresses. We don't see him as a subset of men and he is no less of a man like Rock.

Basically what they argued was that even if a man performed the "female gender" expectations such as wearing a dress and "taking care of the home," that still wouldn't mean they're female gender but rather a subset of the male gender.

Bingo! And expanding on that observation with a recent shower-thought: much of the seemingly-inexplicable above-the-law status enjoyed by "transwomen" may be attributable to this.

Since the fact that they're guys is almost always painfully obvious, "transwomen" in fact continue to be assigned the male gender-role (as it's socially-determined based on sex), and treated accordingly.

It's just that this is then combined with "transwoman-ness", which also grants them license to act in ways normally prohibited by the male gender-role (such as wearing dresses and makeup).

Result: male privilege... but MINUS any of the usual restrictions. Cuz "trans". So their sense of entitlement literally knows no bounds.

And despite all the endless TWAW-ing... they do tend to act like unchecked masculine prerogative in human form, don't they?

Lots of inaccuracies, unfortunately.

An asexual can be willing to have sex to please their partner; it's just not sexually fulfilling for them. The same as a homosexual can still be in a straight relationship, have sex, even have biological children. You don't lose your "ace card" just because you fuck someone.

And men technically can lactate. They have all the required parts. You can argue that it's always due to some abnormality, but really all it takes is just a bit of the right hormones to trigger it.

[–]Mertion 14 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 0 fun15 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Completely disagree with that. The idea of having sex just to please your partner is terrible. There are a lot of gay and straight relationships that fail due to an unsatisfying sexual relationship, it is extremely common.

A person than enjoys sex could never be in a healthy sexual relationship with an asexual person.

The picture does not say that gays/lesbians can't be married or have children to people of the opposite sex. It says they cannot be attracted to them. Some people stay closeted for a very long time because of societal pressure

The picture has other issues, though.

What does asexuality have to do with this conversation? Also, a man lactating is not the same as women.

What does asexuality have to do with this conversation?

It's in the pic in the OP.

Gender and sex are inextricably linked and largely synonymous.

People seem to conflate gender with masculinity and femininity, but that has nothing to do with a man being a man and a woman being a woman--a feminine man is still a man; a masculine woman is still a woman.

Masculinity and femininity are the only 'social constructs' built around sex, but they don't change someone's gender any more than they change someone's sex. Why? Because they're synonymous.

Trans people, in my humble experience, largely appropriate gender stereotypes and graft them onto themselves--femininity or masculinity and secondary sex characteristics. Cosmetic and superficial things, essentially.

Socially constructed ideas around masculinity and femininity is exactly what gender is. Sex is male or female, and isn't socially constructed. An adult human male is a man, an adult human female is a woman, and people don't "have" genders as gender is just something society forces onto you, it's not a property of the self.

[–]BiHorror 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah... We're gonna have to agree to disagree on that. For me (and 99% of the population) gender and sex is the same thing. Stereotypes are called gender stereotypes. Maybe my reluctant to the whole "gender =/= sex" probably has to do with that one sicko who was for pedophilia. Also double standards. TRAs can't change the definition of woman/man, but people can with gender.

Faith in humanity +1

"Your feelings are not facts" Because it has to be said these days.

[–]Archie 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The issue is that everyone thinks the facts of the other sides are only feelings. It's a useless saying imho (please don't take it personally).

[–]PenseePansyBio-Sex or Bust 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah, seems like people these days are (somehow) prone to the following logic error: that because it's a fact they have a feeling which tells them proposition x is true, this means that proposition x must be factual itself (i.e., true/accurate).

???

& also: I myself identify as someone who luvs yer flair :)

Wasn't the original image created by furries? I remember seeing it months ago on Reddit.

[–]Some-unoriginal-guy 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

This isn't very related but I googled this image so I could find the artist and I found an old reddit post on "badscience" which called this a horrible thing and that it was wrong, a terf thing, etc, the image just shows what should be basic knowledge, though not 100% accurate
