The backlash against JK Rowling’s views on transgender law reform has failed to dent the popularity of the Harry Potter author’s books, with publisher Bloomsbury saying they have proved a lockdown hit, pushing revenues at the group’s children’s division up more than a quarter.

It's almost like nobody gives a shit about the trans dogmas and rightthink, except for 5 people on Twitter.

Make that 500, and all of them think the way to make everyone else give a shit is tweeting rape and death threats at her. If anything is still just in the world it should have backfired spectacularly. I haven't seen that much concentrated vitriol since gamergate and MRAs.

I’ve read her HP books as a kid but still bought them recently to support her and for nostalgic reasons.

TRA are loud and obnoxious online but I do believe the majority of sane people don’t buy into their ideology.

[–]oyasuminasai50 31 insightful - 3 fun31 insightful - 2 fun32 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Don't buy into their ideology or even pay attention to it. My boyfriend is somewhat into consuming GC content (not as much as me), and I had to explain to him what "enby"/NB meant. (He was familiar with the concept, just not the abbreviation.) If someone like him who's dabbled into TRA ideology doesn't even know what enby means, then the vast majority of the world who couldn't give less of a shit about what TRAs are discussing online surely don't care either.

Most TRAs have no money. It isn't like they were going to buy the books in the first place.

Yep bingo.

Look at the losers on reddit, nobody that has a job and decent social life can sit on there downvoting and reporting all day.

They're all over gofundme too lol.

How the fuck do they even pay for the internet?

Maybe now that TRAs dislike Harry Potter they will stop using Harry Potter analogies to explain real life politics.

I'm hoping when I take my kids to Universal, we won't be packed in with a bunch of childless adults and actually get to enjoy the place.

[–]LiterallyawomanTERF IRL 25 insightful - 4 fun25 insightful - 3 fun26 insightful - 4 fun -  (8 children)

Tbf that’s how some childless adults feel about the families especially when the kids are too young to appreciate the place lmao

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (7 children)

It's a child's book series. I don't get the childless adults there or Disney. It seems like stunted adolescence.

[–]LiterallyawomanTERF IRL 25 insightful - 2 fun25 insightful - 1 fun26 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Nah, stunted adolescence is when youre not a functional adult or worse you think having kids makes you an adult. Infants and kids under 9 aren’t there for HP it’s the parents lol. HP is a series I grew up with and love so it’s fun to just fly for the weekend, visit the park, and have a beer at the Hogs Head. I have an income I have to dispose of frequently and before COVID-19 I just travelled most weekends, sometimes volunteering but yeah a lot of theme parks too! Having hobbies and interests isn’t childish, I hate to see all the parents who think they can only experience fun places if they drag a kid with them. I’m not elbowing kids out of my way or anything just enjoying the same experience sans kids.

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 4 fun5 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

Oh, I'm sorry - apparently, I struck a nerve. My children read HP between 6-9, so yes, they are there for HP.

[–]materialrealityplz 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

"Children's" book is only a category so stores know where to put it and how to market it. But a lot of books appeal to all ages. HP for one.

[–][deleted] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Depends where in Disney World. Magic kingdom which has a strict no alcohol makes no sense for adults there. The rides are for very small kids and you will be bored. Hollywood Studios and Epcot are more designed for adults. They have food and wine festivals, expensive restaurants etc.

Universal doesn’t really seem kid friendly to me. A lot of the rides that were mildly interesting were for 12 and above anyway. Either scary or dangerous. I have a kid and I skipped Universal mostly because she doesn’t have anything to do there.

[–]bellatrixbells 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Apparently you can also buy a "magic wand" that allows you to interact with some stuff there. My almost 30 yo BFF went last year and he was super excited. Not sure this would have made much sense for children.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I've clearly offended people here, but we waited for 45 minutes to ride the Cat in the Hat behind the childless adults wearing their Gryffindor striped socks and capes. We didn't go until my kids were 8-14 and am glad we can't afford to do it again. You couldn't even move in the HP areas because of all the adults trying to get the gram of the dragon spitting fire. Disney also makes no sense to me - regardless of if they serve alcohol - not that that keeps the childless adults off the line for the Goofy rollercoaster. I won't go to again after my kids are grown, because why would I want to?

[–][deleted] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I’m not offended as much as I find your rant ridiculous and somehow out of touch with the reality. Jeeze don’t go. More space for the rest of us.

[–]Seahorse 14 insightful - 3 fun14 insightful - 2 fun15 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

We can strike a deal if you don't take your child to places like cafes which are mostly designed for adults.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

And I don't, so sounds like a good deal! The other offended posters, however, infer they aren't planning on stopping riding children's rides anytime soon.

Hahaha don't laugh but... (or actually, please do laugh!) here are two recent posts from /r/jkrowling, which has a serious TRA infestation enabled by handmaiden mods (which you can see from the excessive moderating in the comments.) Also one from /r/transgender for the same article.

These absolute dumbshits are celebrating the "fact" that JKR's sales are dwindling, but they are so eager to live in a fantasy-land where this is true that they didn't even bother to read the articles, where it says JKR's sales actually WENT UP by 10.9% (print book sales) and 7.7% (Harry Potter-only stuff.) Apparently they didn't go up by the usual amount, whatever that is, but that's not the equivalent of her sales "going down" she is still seeing an increase, just a smaller amount of increase, which can be due to many many reasons that do not revolve around a trans person's butthole.

You know what? After having read the article you posted, I say good on Bloombury for rallying around JK Rowling!

[–]cutenoobies 20 insightful - 1 fun20 insightful - 0 fun21 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

That sub has gone from being moderate to worse. For instance, the the pink, blue and white strip background tells us where their priorities lie. They say in their rules that transphobia is not allowed, but there is no mention of misogyny.

They give a big space to people like users like one in the third link who posts and comments about JK Rowling for the major part of their reddit activity. Just look at their post history, it looks like they are being paid to slander her name and spread misinformation and hatred about her.

On a side note - even if her books stopped selling like, at all, isn't she still so full of money she's set up for life anyway?

[–]haveanicedaytoo💗💜💙 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly.

But we are dealing with people who want to live in an alternate reality where their fantasies are true and actual true things are lies.

I’m a librarian. JKR’s stuff has been going out slightly more than it used to in our system. Most has been regular circulation, but I’ve encountered a few patrons who are reading her because they’re mad people are saying you can’t.

[–]indeepshadowsBi woman 20 insightful - 1 fun20 insightful - 0 fun21 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Tell people they can't have something and they'll want it. Which is nice in this case, since JK Rowling a pretty good writer and deserves her massive reader base, if you ask me. The TRA hysteria definitely inspired me to buy her work.

[–]MarkJeffersonTight defenses and we draw the line 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

That's probably what got a lot of people into HP. Bible thumpers wagging their finger and saying they can't, and it getting onto a lot of banned book lists. The familiar moral outrage is back, the counter-culture is responding in a predictable fashion.

Yet, they managed to kick the gender critical and women-focused, lesbians off of Reddit. GC had 60k+ people alone. They are working to infiltrate the gay bro subs right now on Reddit.

You know they are on Saidit right now, right? I just saw one created a GenderCynical Saidit.

Tbh I don’t consider the internet outside the bubble. Online they’re faceless, anonymous and able to edit how they articulate themselves with infinite time on their hands, but in real life, in your own community and family and workplace, I truly believe we can fight the extremism with intelligent and respectful debate. TRAs offline in my city are mostly young, obviously desperate for attention teens and 20 somethings that can’t communicate effectively and functional people give them a wide berth. They’re just like the losers of the previous generation who have now moved back home or never left, who are socially stunted perpetual victims ignored by society outside the infinite echo chambers of social media. Think the next generation of 30 year old baristas with neon colored hair except add a name tag with their personal pronouns.

[–]randomlesbian 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

They literally have reddit and all the internet to backing them up, can they just leave 1 space to us ? Why does it bother them so much ?

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They are mentally ill. AGP is a paraphilia.

They meet all of the criteria of of a paraphilia, including intense sexual arousal to atypical objects, situations, fantasies, behaviors, or individuals... those individuals being females, preferably lesbians.

Most people just buy into their intense desire to be women, not understanding what AGP is. People measure this yardstick against what most of us know as neurotic. They are way beyond simple neuroticism.

When lesbians and gender critical people pushback, they devolve into narcissistic rage.

They can’t be content to accept their own spaces. They want to own womanhood.

I'm reading "A Casual Vacancy", which is written for adults, and it's great so far. So if you want to start reading her, this one's a good first buy, I think.

[–]Criticallacitirc 14 insightful - 2 fun14 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I mean you have a large portion of adults who's entire sense of self is based around Harry Potter, you really think they're going to get rid of that and realize the void in their lives they've been avoiding? 😁

[–]immersang 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That is such a weird phenomenon. I mean, I kind of let it consume my soul a bit when I was in college (that was when the first movie was released and when I started reading it as well). But...I grew out of that. Who are the people who just completely stick with it and model their identity around it? Do you have to start reading it as a child for that? Or is it simply based on being mentally unstable?

[–]PassionateIntensity 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

They've already made up comforting lies that it has tanked her sales and had Forbes and some other TRA-chumps reporting it, so that will suffice. It doesn't matter what's true, it matters what they tell themselves and can convince their community.

It's almost like the newspapers are disappointed about it. They sure have been pushing the TRAs agenda as if the majority of people was on their side (instead of a small minority).
