Stonewall did not give me my rights either. I am a non-american, born way after the riots occured. An event that happened decades ago in a different country did not affect my life, and I do not owe it, or anyone involved, anything. Especially considering my life still sucks.

Exactly! And I’m sorry to hear. I hope life gets better for you. I know some countries like Poland, Iran, Russia, etc all have decades of work ahead of themselves. Hope the best for you

I'm Russian... I don't live there anymore. But the laws and stuff aren't even the issue, it's the social problems. Even in a "liberal" country. I personally don't care about marriage or anything like that, what hurts me is the shame.

It is strange, how the American story about anything - racism, stonewall, seems to pushed globally. Well, not so strange, considering America's soft power and power in general.

Hi there straight female here who lurks. I just wanted to mention that Graham Linehan interviewed Fred Sargeant. A really interesting and compelling interview. During it Sargeant states that it was a butch lesbian Stormé DeLarverie who instigated the Stonewall riot and Sargeant said trans were not part of the early gay rights movement. Interview at link

Even if MPJ was a trans woman of color (s/he wasn’t) and threw the first brick (s/he didn’t), just because members of a certain demographic contributed to “our fight” doesn’t mean that it absolves everyone in that said demographic from criticism and gives them the right to call the shots. The majority of people fighting in those riots and later fighting for LGB(T) rights were white “cis” gay men and lesbians, but you don’t see anyone saying “you owe your rights to white gays and lesbians, how dare you criticize and exclude them”.

This is completely unrelated, but have you seen the Portlandia episode where a bookstore owner suggests a book called "s/he"? The way it's pronounced makes me die every time I see the term.

Wikipedia continues their erasure/promotion of Marsha:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LGBT_rights_activists

  • Marsha P. Johnson (August 24, 1945 – July 6, 1992) was an American gay liberation activist and transgender woman. Known as an outspoken advocate for gay rights, Johnson was one of the prominent figures in the Stonewall uprising of 1969.

As a l lesbian in my sixties who spent much time fighting for both women’s and LGB rights; I am losing hope in stopping this erasure of both. I know I shouldn’t, but I now see pronouns listed for many public figures (she/her he/him ) in every tweet or comment. Anyone with suggestions to how I can get out of this pit?

um, remind yourself of Jeremy Corbyn's asinine insistence on declaring his pronouns each and every time he made a public statement and how very, very badly alienated his party's core demographic of sane, working class people to the point where they elected Boris Johnson, a goofier bastardized version of Donald Trump, just to spite Corbyn and Labour's self-anointed smugfuckery.

always make me smile to remember that the majority will continue to swat the daylights out of woqueness on the grandest of stages.

The specific Wikipedia page on lists Johnson as "variably identified as gay, as a transvestite, and as a queen (referring to drag queen)." So there's an discrepancy on Wikipedia between the Marsha P Johnson page and the mini biographical synopsis on that "List of LGBT rights activists" page.

Similar calls for LGB to join false, totally-unaligned coalitions from everyone's favorite Black Supremacist, Tariq Nasheed https://twitter.com/tariqnasheed/status/1272560999665549314

Nor do we (LGB, black white or otherwise) owe Black people any assistance in imposing reparations on the American citizenry. That shit, too, has literally nothing to do with the issues LGB people face unless you're a disciple of the Church of Intersectionality.

He (inadvertently) points out exactly why the recent employment discrimination Supreme Court case was so poorly reasoned. Instead of anti-gay and anti-trans discrimination being added to the Civil Rights act by an amendment, Gorsuch's reasoning makes them both subsets of sexism. Which, imo, they are not in any way.

Oh for sureee, the SCOTUS essentially grasped so hard at straws that they accidentally legislated. Even more bizarre was that Gorsuch (Trump's first appointee) penned the majority position. w/e, can't complain I guess.
