She "doesn't mind being grouped with women"! Just wants you to know she's not a walking characture of stereotypes, unlike the rest of us.

This shit's so dumb. I am nothing like what's expected of me as a woman. But am I still a woman? Of-fucking-course I am! What's the point of non-binary except to just confuse teenagers and to make others feel special because they're "not like other girls"?

[–]SpatOuttheKoolaid 41 insightful - 10 fun41 insightful - 9 fun42 insightful - 10 fun -  (3 children)

Dumb, depressing, and dystopian. Being a woman is an insult now. Apparently the concept of personality is now outdated, it's all about "gender". I know a 50 something year old married lesbian turned TRA (though I can guarantee she'd be a "terf" too because she absolutely doesn't do "girldick") that feels the need to periodically announce on Facebook that some days she "feels like a woman" but some days she "feels like a man". Some days she wears pants and doesn't put on makeup, folks--can you imagine that?! Everyone else must know this and applaud it--how stunning and brave to come out as a non stereotype!

I've had my own experience with calling myself nonbinary, and it was the most depressing time in my life. (I actually posted about it on reddit about a month and a half ago. I might repost it here for posterity if nothing else.)

What I dislike most about all this we're never able to call them out on it anywhere they can see, otherwise we're "promoting hate based on identity or vulnerability" and silenced. We're relegated and confined to our own spaces where we can be easily branded as a hateful community. It's ridiculous. I really hope more people are peaking now.

Jesus, she is old enough to remember Anne Lennox, Patti Smith and Grace Jones too.

What happened?

I sometimes 'felt like a man' becouse of my laid back mindset, but I've never identified as anything other than a proud woman defying bad stereotypes. Other women in my family, media even some I knew made me feel like I was special, but I'm not. Women are just not like this. I love women, they are badass no matter how gender conforming or unconforming they are.

That's literally all it is. They've done their googling, and they believe they can adopt a special new identity that will make them feel whole.

[–]NeedMoreCoffee~=[,,_,,]=^_^= 14 insightful - 3 fun14 insightful - 2 fun15 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

The point of non binary is if you think you are gender non conforming and you want to make that a personality because you are so vapid and boring otherwise.

[–]Radfem_the_Hun 20 insightful - 3 fun20 insightful - 2 fun21 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly. It's just the "Not like other girls" trope, dressed up as woke for the 2020s.

[–]materialrealityplz 45 insightful - 6 fun45 insightful - 5 fun46 insightful - 6 fun -  (2 children)

I fucking hate "non-binary". They are part of why women are being called 'uterus-havers', so we can be "inclusive". Fuck that. (Though for some reason you don't see men being called 'prostate-havers'...)

Non-binary is basically just "I'm not like those other men/women, I'm special". It's nothing but how you dress/make-up, etc, with a side of stupid because they deny being female or male. And even though it's apparently a gender, they want to put it as their sex on passports and such.

It's super regressive and helps reinforce old stupid stereotypes about men and women. (because you have to define a woman or man to identify out of it) Also a lot of them just dress as a stereotype of the opposite sex anyway. So much for 'non-binary'.

[–][deleted] 14 insightful - 3 fun14 insightful - 2 fun15 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

It's literally a dumb subculture and nothing more.

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 7 insightful - 6 fun7 insightful - 5 fun8 insightful - 6 fun -  (0 children)

Goth and Emo are valid genders too!

[–]Debaser 34 insightful - 2 fun34 insightful - 1 fun35 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Im peaking NB over this shit today.

Its such an old fashioned and absolute way of thinking. They think it's progressive and, like others have commented, "not like other girls". All it does is reinforce the bullshit gender expectations we are trying to get away from.

They could have been like the rest of us and lived their life as an example of women not giving a fuck and doing and dressing however they like, stepping away from the age old depiction of who and what a woman should be... but no.

They are special want us all to know it.

[–]Beth-BR[S] 32 insightful - 3 fun32 insightful - 2 fun33 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

What's the point of it if your pronounce are still 'her' and like what? Do they want to confuse people? You just wanna be more queer? What's so bad about being a woman and why do you have to make up more identities if your still a woman/man. It's not a third sex. Your personality and behaviour don't have to be another gender. (I don't wanna hate on Noelle I love her work, but this is just nonsense to me). Not conforming into negative misogynistic stereotypes about women doesn't make you not one.

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

And not making you escape violence or oppression, as no one will ask "what is your pronounce" first.

How they imagioning that?

  • I identify as "yes", so my pronouns is "xe".

  • Oh, so you are not woman, okay, we will raise your wage.

Like this?

The only benefit of the non-binary label is as a warning flag to others to keep your distance.

[–]begonia_skies 18 insightful - 3 fun18 insightful - 2 fun19 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

lol, yep. "non-binary" or "they/them" pronouns in a profile is a swipe left that saves me the time and trouble.

[–]DimDroog 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

To me, anyone who announces their pronouns is going to be a pain in the keister, and I know to avoid.

[–]LiterallyawomanTERF IRL 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Anyone who lists their pronouns is a red flag of self absorbed high maintenance insecurity imho

[–]SpatOuttheKoolaid 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

....either that or (if it's a company email address) being held hostage by their HR department

[–]CleverNickName 28 insightful - 1 fun28 insightful - 0 fun29 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

To "be" non-binary is to be "brave", "strong", "special" and, most importantly, "part" of the LGBTQIADAC+, without having to actually DO (or, more importantly, go through) a goddamn thing.

[–][deleted] 12 insightful - 4 fun12 insightful - 3 fun13 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

You have to be mad about pronouns, that’s all it takes. Lol.

[–]OPPRESSED_REPTILIANIntersex male | GNC | Don't call me "a gay", "twink" or "queen" 19 insightful - 3 fun19 insightful - 2 fun20 insightful - 3 fun -  (6 children)

Another cartoon creator. That makes at least three now. (Rebecca Sugar, Steven Universe creator, and Jacob Tobia, the guy who voices a character in She-Ra.)

They're all on Cartoon Network; you don't see this stuff on other cartoon channels. Really makes me wonder wtf is going on with CN. I'm also concerned. They're literally pushing propaganda to kids, who are eating it up like dessert. How did we go from "Cartoon Network refuses to show a same sex kiss on Adventure Time" to "Let's teach kids about trans identities, shit on intersex people, fill their heads with misinformation, and get total perverts to help make the cartoons?"

[–]Nona_Biba 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

I stopped watching steven universe: future when they introduced that NB character. I just...couldn't. I was a steven universe fan for YEARS and I can't even force myself to finish watching the show because they are friggin proselytizing gender bullshit to children. Rebecca Sugar could be a role model for girls as a successful female artist but instead she's gotta be ~non binary~ and turn her back on womanhood. So sad.

[–]OPPRESSED_REPTILIANIntersex male | GNC | Don't call me "a gay", "twink" or "queen" 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Yes and they released a promotional short (Notice how the comments are turned off, lol) which labeled said NB character as "intersex", implying hermaphrodite since the character is a "fusion" of a male and female. Which is super inaccurate and disrespectful portrayal of intersex people, now marketed at kids and confused with nonbinary.

I don't understand. You have vastly female majority cast. You have some celebrity voice actors. You start off with the theme of female empowerment. And then you go "no they're all nonbinary" and turn it into a shitshow. And what's worse is that Cartoon Network somehow approved this.

[–]Nona_Biba 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

whoa you know what, i forgot stevonnie could be considered NB

The NB character I was talking about is Shep, complete with they/them pronouns lol

"uwu look at this beautiful NB bean!!!"

I was expecting a true sexless character, like the lizard guy in Shera, whereas here she's just a girl with a girly voice lol

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Because same sex-kisses are homosexuality. And gender non-conformism is a cure to homosexuality. This is why it is allowed, while homosexuality is still doesn't.

Lmaooooo, I shouldn't make too much fun because they are 15 (15?!?!?!?!!!) but I thought this over 9000 genders stuff went the way of Tumblr:

https://i.imgur.com/1GzPXfE.png

Tbh, I don't go into many trans subs at all because it's too loony, so maybe I've missed it. It's just been a few years since I've seen the 60zillion ways to label your gender trope.

[–]Radfem_the_Hun 12 insightful - 2 fun12 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Also, this + the fact that Jacob Tobia works on the new She-Ra now guarantees that I will never, ever support that show in any way. It's sad because I loved OG She-Ra as an 80s kid, and they are just ruining it with this gender shit.

[–]haveanicedaytoo💗💜💙 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

IKR? I was thinking of downloading/watching She-ra/He-man one of these days just for nostalgia's sake, but I'm so turned off that I probably never will.

But I recommend Jem & The Holograms though. I found torrents of all the seasons a few years back and it was just as good as I remembered. It's amazing when an old cartoon ages so well.

[–]Radfem_the_Hun 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I haven't thought about Jem & the Holograms for years - thanks for the reminder and the rec, I will definitely revisit for that good old-fashioned girl power :)

[–]writerlylesbian 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I LOVED Jem and the Homograms. I had this one VHS tape that I would watch over and over again. I also loved old school She-Ra. I watched a bit of the new one and didn't really like it. It had the right elements but somehow felt dead and flat and uninteresting.

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Can they explain what is "but on another plane"?

No. You're not the only one. Non-binary people are, more often than not, attention whores. Usually gay or bisexual people who realise that most people don't care that they are gay or bisexual anymore, or straight people who want to "fit in" in LGB spaces, want to take over these spaces and want to boss LGB people around in these spaces.

[–]fuckupaddamsBisexual Terve 15 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 0 fun16 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

So... What exactly did she just come out as? Everyone in the comments is jumping for joy but this literally looks like a woman who doesn't care about gender and is fine being lumped in with women and she/her pronouns but this makes her... Trans?

[–]Beth-BR[S] 10 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I think she said "I'm all genders" which is like wtf?

[–]haveanicedaytoo💗💜💙 14 insightful - 2 fun14 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I had to Google who this was. It another one of those She-Ra people. Why am I not surprised?

Nobody cares about your gender Noelle. They all just pretend to care about your gender so that they can tell you about their gender and then feel the power and validation that comes from other people believing their lies.

[–]SheRa 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Aside from this, I have honestly found She-Ra to be a good show. There are so many muscular and gnc women characters and I have never seen women portrayed in that way. Personally, it has been great for me to see how much other fans love the muscularity of the main characters because I have struggled to accept wanting to look like that myself. She-Ra made me feel like I could be loved as a muscular lesbian. The fandom, however, has gone insane with saying that non-binary people can be lesbians or that lesbians can use any pronoun. I think people would be really pressed to find a lesbian that wants to date someone who uses "he/him" off twitter.

[–]Beth-BR[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Can you imagine someone asking her for money only for her to tell them no, and only to have them tell her that they thought she identified as yes so she has no choice to give them money?

[–][deleted] 9 insightful - 4 fun9 insightful - 3 fun10 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

[–]quickbeam 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

"I am non-binary or something like it" - pretty much says it all, doesn't it? It's like if your identity is that fluid is it actually something you need to come out as or equate to identities which have had their civil rights denied in recent memory?

[–]MezozoicGayoldschool gay 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Uuugh. Someone I follow (who is gender conforming and straight af) made a similar pronouncement today, and I was baffled. Like, literally just not being offended or bothered by someone calling you he or she is now an identity?? To the point where it requires a 'day of visibility' and coming out announcements??? I'm pretty sure that no one has ever been discriminated against for being a straight, gender conforming person who's laid back about how they're referred to...
