I have not really been around gay men since several very close friends passed during the AIDS crisis. Never did any of them refer to themselves as femme. I may be assuming, but did this come about with the advent of the TRAS?

For lesbians, some of us refer to ourselves as femme, butch or androgynous (or anywhere on the spectrum). I had no idea gay men did that, too.

How could I forget about queens! The difference is they loved camping it up, it was always in sly fun, kind of tongue in cheek, never taking the camp too seriously and they all stated that they were gay men.
