The lgbt is just full of men pretending to be women most of the time. So apparently we're just supposed to accept "GiRl DiCk" which is the most disgusting thing ever said btw.

Most majority of leftist groups are not accepting of diversity of thought and critical thinking. They say that diversity is their strength but only in skin color. Which in its own right is racist asf because it infantilizes and subjects people to just be inable to be themselves with all the flaws included.

LGBT doesn't give a shit about bi people either, because it destroys their tran agenda narrative. Anyone no matter which gender or race is allowed to have preferences and decide who they wanna fuck.

I literally do not understand the shame people do on others for this simple fact. It's our bodies and choices on who we want sleep with and find attractive.

Even aside from the lamentable online penchant for intolerance and groupthink, I suspect that this might have something to do with how just plain cluelessness about bisexuality is the default: specifically, the assumption that it requires being "50/50", and making no distinction between the sexes. Like, your attraction to them "should" be interchangeable. So when you express that you in fact see them as pretty damn different? HOW VERY DARE YOU. Bad bisexual! You're not following The Rules! Etc. Which is of course idiotic, especially since (from what I can tell) perceiving men and women in a decidedly apples-and-oranges way may well be the norm for us.

Another potential (and related) factor: that bisexuality is often misinterpreted as meaning "sexually indiscriminate", so you must be obligated to lust after the proverbial Anything That Moves. Which makes having any sexual preferences-- or, god forbid, aversions-- unthinkable. Equally moronic, but since biphobia tends to be more the rule than the exception, hardly surprising, unfortunately :(

Has anyone else opted-out of relationships? by NutterButterFlutter in LGB

My apologies for taking so damn long to respond to this, 'Flutter. (I wanted to at the time you originally posted it, but my offline life has been in high gear lately.)

While it certainly isn't the case that I've opted out of relationships, I would like to say this: please don't get hung up on the sense that you need to have a "this-is-The-One" feeling in order to have a relationship. Sure, that's a common way to experience it, but it's not the only way. And it may not be YOUR way. The important thing is, do you want this person in your life? Beyond the level of friendship/acquaintance? For the foreseeable future? That's what matters, not whether it fits some conventional notion of how such a person should make you feel.

Maybe it's simply that you have the sense, counter to the standard construct of love (but not many real-life experiences of it), that there ISN'T just one person for each of us; rather, there are a range of individuals with whom we could have that LTR bond. They don't have to be "the only one in the WORLD!!!", you know? They just have to be the one you choose... and who chooses you :)

We have given up diversity of thought on the internet in exchange for convenience. Every single niche thing had its own independently-run forum, now all the discussions are happening on Reddit and Discord. No need to make a new account every time you want to post something, and the centralization makes discovering content outside your bubble easier, but what we're allowed to say online is effectively governed by a much smaller number of people. Reddit has a LONG history of cracking down on communities and members with certain differing views, gender being one of them. They also seem keen on making sure all subreddit moderators hold their views as well. As pointed out on X formerly known as Twitter, it's not because Reddit is concerned with being in advertisers' good graces.

Being on the internet really made me realize just how male centric and male worshipping the world really is.

Yes, but also this is magnified by the fact that the largest online communities have more control than ever before and happen to be run primarily by men who don't care about women. My guess is that the world is slightly less bad than the current landscape of the web makes it appear.

I learned yesterday that when birds feel threatened, they open their beaks wide and can even growl (kind of like a lion)!

A little bird flew into the office at work when someone left the door open, I think it was a baby blue jay. We all tried to gently catch it and/or shoo it back towards the door. Poor little guy was super scared and tucking into himself and puffing his feathers out ... but he also did the beak behavior and growling. I've never seen that before!

LGB people aren't a huge presence on the site, and SaidIt as a whole is pretty small as it is. Combine that with the 90-9-1 rule for social media, and we end up with LGB subs that are just kinda floating along with very small pockets of activity.

that's ridiculous. There was a time when there where no rainbow stickers in windows so unless you were a shut in you had to go interact with straight people.

Same. Without trying to be disregarding, it feels like he's trying too hard? I don't know how to put it into words, but he sounds like he's the type of LGB who really wants acceptance from straight people imo. Idk why, I just get that feeling. So, when other gay men aren't putting up with that, rather go their own way, it knocks him out that mindset for a sec.

Where does he talk about his friends' feelings? I know he said he feel bad for them, but maybe I keep skipping it.

do you mean celibacy?

No. Celibacy is deliberately choosing to not be intimate for one reason or another. I'm not opting-out by choice, I would like to be.

I'm opting out because I feel no drive, passion, or desire anymore. I would be faking intimacy while hoping it actually develops. Maybe that's because I don't feel there's a point? Because I've never felt there was "the one"?

how do you look into asexuality?

By trying to learn.

I would think you are or you aren't...

Agreed, which is also why I don't think it's me. I researched asexuality and various meanings and understandings as best I could. Some things made sense to me personally, some things didn't. Ultimately I think, whether asexuality is legitimate or not, that what's known about it doesn't describe me.

Its pretty difficult because the cost of living keeps going up but our incomes don't increase in the same way.

Something I find useful is to identify fixed monthly expenses. Water, electricity, rent, gas, food...i add all that and it gives me a number. For example, 800, and I earn 1100 every month. Then I know I have 300 to save or spend in some emergency each month. I can't spend more money or i will eat my savings.

Saving is difficult but necessary. Then you could invest on something. Idk how it works in the US but here in Europe you can call a insurance company and get one of their investment products. Or a retirement plan if you are thinking about that already. They say the sooner you start, the better.

I have very much been thinking about moving. I haven't been to many places in the US, but the places Ive visited so far have unfortunately been ruled out because of climate. The east coast, for example, is a no-go for me. I cant handle the humidity, it makes me ill. Ive heard its even worse for the gulf coast, so thats out's too.

Midwest is a consideration, but I havent been to any of those states or cities. No idea what I'd be walking into there.

My concern with moving before having a plan or an idea for retirement is I may bite myself in the ass with it. I made good money where I'm at but the cost of living is high. I don't have a specialty career, so while I can easily move anywhere in the country and find comparable work, my pay would be adjusted according to the new COL in the area.

Feels like a catch 22.

I don't really get any butterflies or interest in anyone. I can look at people and sometimes think that they are objectively attractive, but beyond that, there's nothing.

I know that the over-the-top infatuation of young love and hormonal urges isn't real (or rather, it's not lasting). But it would be nice to at least be intrigued by someone again, and maybe feel a little turned on. I don't even get crushes anymore.

I looked into asexuality a bit myself. I'm not sure if it fits for me, its a little confusing since Ive enjoyed sex in the past. I just don't really care now, about sex or getting close to someone. It's a weird feeling.

Last year I did cheesy stuffed bell peppers, which I havent had since I was a kid. And the year before, I did completely homemade green bean casserole (all fresh ingredients, nothing canned or frozen). Not sure what Im going to try this year yet.

I have never watched The L Word. One other lesbian I know IRL has given me a lot of shit for not watching it. But that just makes me want to watch it even less, lol.

I guess I don't really have a good reason for not watching it, other than... I was just never curious? I don't watch that many TV shows in general, though. I do seek out video games that have LGB representation (shoutout Life is Strange!).

I vaguely recall seeing some ads for the new L word series and I am definitely not interested in watching that... IIRC, it had at least one "transbian" character, and other characters with meaningless gender identity labels. What do those have to do with the experience of being a same-sex-attracted woman...? Knowing myself, I would probably be too pissed off if I watched it to enjoy it, so I try to veer towards more positive stuff, haha.

I'm not wasting effort on trying to find a relationship, but it at time feels like that's because my area has no availability. My college has, like, 6 other gay guys in it and they're already dating each other. The rest of my town seems to have no people in my age range at all, let alone gay men. I could look for a local daddy, but I'm not looking for that kind of relationship dynamic. If I find any single gay man within 5 years of my own age, I'll probably try to ask him out, but that search isn't turning up any results.

I only started my career a few years ago and I'm making decent money. Just bought a house and that's going to eat up a good portion of my income. But in my industry, it's normal to make more with experience so that's how I've justified it. If I continue on my current trajectory, I'll be alright. But many Americans won't be as fortunate, I think. Things look pretty bleak.

I would recommend moving though. I recently dated someone who moved here (northern Midwest) from a large city closer to the east coast and she was amazed at how relatively cheap rent was here.

Question/Suggestion:

Do we want a "Chit-Chat" post flair, for things that don't fall under the rest of them? Or a weekly "Sunday Social" that encompasses everything else? Just realized there wasn't a more "casual conversation" option, so that should be included somehow.

Here's the list of user flairs to add when I get the chance. Like with s/LGBDropTheT, you'll have the option to add an image flair, text flair, or both.

  • Lesbian: labrys (flag w/ axe symbol)
  • Lesbian: pink stripes flag
  • Lesbian: intertwined female symbols

  • Gay Men: blue stripes flag

  • Gay Men: intertwined male symbols

  • Gay Men: pink triangle

  • Bisexual: pink/blue/purple flag

  • Bisexual: FFM intertwined symbols

  • Bisexual: MMF intertwined symbols

  • General: rainbow flag original

  • General: rainbow flag reduced colors

Any others?

Hey, I know this got posted a while ago but just a quick question about rules: Could we add "no sexist language"? I noticed this is absent from the s/lgbdropthet rules as well, wasn't sure if it got overlooked or what. I think people are generally pretty good about not being sexist, but it might be nice to have it formally in the rules.

It was already announced in s/LGBDropTheT as a courtesy, it was in a mod-stickied post and is still referenced in the current stickied post.

s/LGBDropTheT won't make another separate post because that's violating rules about self-advertising.

We're looking for input from people who are already committed to being a part of s/LGB, not people who we wrangle in.

Are there any of the cute/joyful images that really appeal to you?

It's easy for us to remake the flags and/or icons into the more joyful versions if people want it ... but we're also wondering if there are other images that people would want as user flairs. We don't want to get super complicated and have like 80 flairs to choose from, but it's pretty easy to add on a few more besides just the flags/icons.

The emoji ones are cute haha I like the idea of having cute, kinda joyful looking flairs. I'm fine with the plain ones too but they're associated with dropthet in my head and the ambiance isn't the same if you see what I mean?

Okay wait I can express that in a simpler manner: I like having joyful flares for a joyful place :D

I prefer the plainer ones too.

From a creator standpoint, they're a lot easier to make and manage also, since flairs have a size limit unless we want to get super-crazy with coding.

Nobody is commenting and giving input :(

I'm biased since I'm a mod and did pop in once in a while, but I'll start in case that helps other users want to comment.

I think the rules are a great start to get us opened, and we can always re-address later with the community as things change and progress. Post and user flairs will be the next consideration, once we know what people even want this sub to be.

I think rule 2 is probably the most important. We believe this sub should be LGB-focused only, and that means even good-natured and/or advice-style questions about gender identity should be directed elsewhere. We're aiming for an LGB safe space community with this sub, and even if it's LGB users asking the question or posting memes, don't want to accidentally colonize ourselves and become /LGBTQ+alphabet.

As SaidIt grows, the LGBT Ecosystem may become larger and more expansive. If that happens, we may need to shorten the sidebar list and make an extra page/link to other subs.

Totally for the ORIGINAL rainbow flag.

Could squeeze in some pink triangle too. This was a common item to indicate and promote the LGB movement right after it finally got it's act together.

Since we want to promote LGB issues, just like when the LGB formed, I think any of the symbols used back in those day would, and should, apply.

It was a grass roots movement when it started. And I think we should be again.

Old, I know. Sorry Tumbleweed I just decided I'll be using this platform for my LGB online life.

I'm just reading through the "topics" list and I'm thinking...some of these are those "inches" that lead to all the "miles."

"I'm trans and recently discovered I'm a lesbian"... Would this be the trans man who is detrans now that doesn't want gay man penis any longer? Or is this an confirmed trans woman who runs with the tag "transbians"?

"isn't homosexuality/bisexuality outdated by gender identity now?".... This question alone allows additional "gender" questions. That is the backbone of the TRA argument...gender trumps sex and sexuality.

"Aren't you excluding asexuals and non-binary when you say "LGB only"?"... Ya, yes. We should be. Non-binary is also a TRA trigger word that actually used to mean GNC people like bitch lesbians and feminine guys. A masculine girl will dress, often, as she feels comfortable. Probably a pair of jeans with a t-shirt for summer. Only a non-binary person could then turn around and show up in a simple, but elegant, black, off the shoulder silk dress the next day. And "asexual" is just something that makes no sense. It's a "door opener" category into LGB specific subs/forums/groups for the rest of the "genders."

A bitch lesbians needs to identify as GNC.

I'm all for encouraging communication between the LGB and those who prefer gender as an identity. But I would be leary about using any LGB specific sub for those chats and discussions.

Maybe another sub with a title along the lines of "LGB And Sane Transgender Folk"... A bit of humor with that, but you get my point. A separate sub for those kinds of things to be exchanged with a hardcore moderating to make sure it doesn't turn into a TRA dominated sub.

We saw what happened to lgbt on Reddit. My understanding that was pretty mondaine in the beginning. Then the TRA gathered and set new policy there.

For me, and totally my personal opinion...LGB for LGb, only. LGBT for LGBTQQIAIDF+.

Hope you had a wonderful holiday season and I wish you, ad is,a HAPPY NEW YEAR 📣🎊🎉🎇

Was wondering if perhaps this subsaidit could even open up a Discord channel or use other IM apps like Skype, Zoom Jitsi, Wire, etc.

It would be nice to have the option to speak with others(voice or text) who are LGB or discuss some hobby/interest based things(Videogames, Hiking, book club, art, music, sports, lifestyle, etc).

I haven't met an LGB person in real life yet that is removed from TQ...so it would be nice to find others who are...

I guess what I was envisioning with the collage idea was b&w images with a rainbow overlaid. Kind of like this (quickly made this in photoshop with a random stock collage from the internet - not LGB people or anything):

https://imgur.com/5MbKEtf

Though the painting style idea u/les4les mentioned in a comment sounds cool too.

Awesome, really appreciate your input!

Old-fashioned painting style sounds really cool too! I don't have a firm image in mind at all, the first thing that comes to mind is Renaissance, LOL ... but I'm thinking a painting style on top and some simple B&W behind it. So the painting style stands out as representation, and the B&W is like a gentle support behind it.

Any other ideas, keep 'em coming! We'll present options so everyone can weigh in and give feedback before we implement anything.

Not the original poster but I do love a good rainbow, particularly now that people keep trying to redesign it. I think black and white would go best with a rainbow if that happened but i do like the idea of old-timey photographs and paintings because a lot of them can be very pretty and pastel lol

I like the flag flairs too!

Ah, seems I'm just misunderstanding the rules of Saidit. my bad

I think I would mind having opposite views on LGB (or being on s/all) more than I would on LGBDDT just because LGB strikes me more as a safe space to get away from all the rest of this crap, lol, that's my $0.02

I agree I wouldn't want to limit the ability of the community to grow though. I don't know if it'd be easier to open the group more in the future if things work out, as opposed to having to close it more if things go south quickly so I can't offer any input on that, but I personally tend to err on the cautious side, so that's my vote if this is a vote haha

We get the occasional troll over at LGBDTT too, and I've been a whole-hearted supporter of you all at s/Lesbians since before your new sub was even formed, so I'm with ya!

I'm not overly concerned about the rest of SaidIt, honestly. Some people here may be crass, crude, or downright offensive ... but I'd rather they be allowed to speak and me be allowed to have a discussion with them than to say "you don't get a voice at all because you're different". If I find I'm always disagreeing with people, then I'm in the wrong sub. And that's on me, not them.

I found this site when Reddit banned s/WatchPeopleDie a few years ago, and that was after Voat.co was formed, and Voat is infamous at this point for being "right wing nazis". Every time Reddit does a purge of "wrong think", users need to find a new place to go, and lets be honest ... Reddit has purged a great deal since 2016 and 2017.

Homophobes, anti-semites, right-wing, but most importantly ... "bad for our image to advertisers and the media". Hell, they even purged GenderCritical, who are leftist radical feminists.

There are always going to be conflicting opinions and people of different beliefs on any site. We can either allow them to have discussions on our sub (and stay on s/all) or we can remove them (and remove ourselves from s/all).

We don't really get a middle-of-the-road option, and honestly, no mods (or even site Admins) want to deal with that. It makes for ever-increasing rules and work-arounds, and makes subs into dictatorships instead of communities.

As for brigading, that's against the terms of SaidIt, so don't worry ... us mods and the Admins are always on the lookout. Admins actually added a new rule to the site guidelines in the past month or so because they saw astro-turfing occurring. I've seen it with my own eyes, Magnora7 has no qualms about suspending users who exhibit that kind of behavior. It's quite refreshing, "stay in your own lane, douchebag" is actually taken seriously here.

PS - I know I've written a huge long comment already, but I wanted to address what you said specifically here:

I don't mind the occasional rant about TQ+ as long as the rest of the sub isn't what you can expect from s/LGBDropTheT.

My fear is that if we allow it, it WILL overwhelm this sub. The number one reason LGBTTT removes posts is because people are ranting about trans in general, as opposed to focusing on why LGB want to drop the T. I also do not want this to become a clone of LGBBDTT, but I know from experience that it can and will if we don't nip it in the bud early and consistently.

Community Round-Up: goals, rules, and topics by [deleted] in LGB

[–][deleted] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Brigaders and harassers are inevitable as the platform grows. I think we all have far more than enough experience with that already ;) Give an inch, and a mile is taken.

That said, I feel an explanation is needed ...

We could limit topics like these, for example:

  • I'm trans and recently discovered I'm a lesbian, support needed
  • Isn't homosexuality/bisexuality outdated by gender identity now?
  • Aren't you excluding asexuals and non-binary when you say "LGB only"?
  • I'm a butch lesbian who identifies as non-binary, what would you call me?

While subs are encouraged to be about communities, of course, SaidIt is (for the most part) an open and free speech platform. Us mods are not allowed to remove posts, or ban users, unless the user is dragging down the Pyramid Of Debate, brigading/astroturfing, or promoting illegal things according to U.S. law.

Openness and transparency if/when we remove is vital to not becoming Reddit Powermods 2.0, which is one reason why our ModLogs are publicly available for all to see. Additionally, if we want to dictate exactly what kind of content is and is not allowed here (LGB/homosexuallity/bisexuality only), then we HAVE TO remove ourselves from s/all. It's in our rules and guidelines for being a mod.

Long story short ... discussion, debate, and opposite views are 100% allowed ... unless we remove ourselves from s/all. I'm concerned about us becoming a clone of r/LGBT if we don't, but I also don't want to limit this small and just-forming community just because of my own fears.

Having specific days dedicated to selfies or whatnot is definitely not mandatory ... it's more about making sure that the sub doesn't get overwhelmed with them every other day of the week. Since we're still so small and just getting started, it probably doesn't even need to be a rule yet, but it's something that can be considered for the future!

I can definitely start things off with the flags for user flairs like on LGBDTT, and the icons too if folks want them. Easy enough to just copy-paste all of that over :) I can also allow text-only flairs, and/or the combination of text and images, if peeps would like!

Ooooh, I really like your idea about the banner! In your mind, do you envision color, black-and-white, or sepia like old-fashioned photos? Do you think we should have a rainbow flag incorporated in the banner, or is that overkill? Could always make the icon on the left side of the sub "LGB" with a rainbow background (or something).

I like the flair flags on LGBDropTheT - maybe those could work for this sub as well?

As for the banner, what about a collage of famous gay and bisexual people.

Some possible women are Sappho, Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon, Barbara Gittings, Bessie Smith, Gladys Bentley, Ma Rainey, Miss Anne Lister, Audre Lorde, Katherine "Kit" Duffy, Hannah Höch, Hannah Gluckstein (Gluck), Tamara de Lempicka, Virginia Woolf, Pat Parker, Angela Davis, Li Tingting...

Some possible men are Ashok Row Kavi, Magnus Hirschfeld, Harvey Milk, Arsham Parsi, Karl Heinrich Ulrichs, Bayard Rustin, Charles Demuth, Robert Rauschenberg, Walt Whitman, Oscar Wilde, Alain Locke, Frederico García Lorca, Countee Cullen, James Baldwin, Yukio Mishima...
