The cartoon depicts a slave trader

Actually, he spends very little of his time near the slave actually trading. Slave transporter, more like. The trader is the black guy who is walking back to his home carrying the stuff the white guy gave him in exchange for the slave and dozens of others.

And by "carrying" I mean "having his slaves carry".
