To think its bad now when there's the incumbent advantage, imagine the crackdown when they have a real chance in 2024.

I feel like Trump is unusually hated, but he honestly may not be.

The whole Trump hysteria made me realize how young people were on Reddit. It was basically all the same "literally Hitler" things they said about Bush. Except that Bush started two wars. What the fuck has Trump done that's worse than that?

Exactly. I've been thinking this very same thought many times over the last 3 years. Trump is still not as bad as Bush, he hasn't started any trillion-dollar wars (yet).

I think a lot of people have forgotten the Bush years, tbh. When they think back on it, all they really see is the kindly looking painter who gives people sweets at major political events these days.

All I remember is the Flip Flop incident...

He's rude on Twitter. That's basically it to be honest - they can't stand that he's not calm and erudite like Obama was. Everything else they accuse him of is basically just them looking for reasons to justify their preexisting hatred.

Trump is not beholden to any special interests, like any President to emerge from the traditional party establishment is. Therefore, Trump puts the entire system of graft and corruption at risk, because he doesn't owe anyone favors. He won't allow lobbyists to write policy, or to dictate regulations. Most importantly, he expects the government to represent the interests of the American people, which is to say he expects that gigantic bureaucracy that runs US Government agencies to put US interests first. As we have seen, large swaths are more interested in damaging the current President than doing the job they were hired to do.

It's less about trump and more about the memetic movement behind him. Because they ain't going nowhere when leaves in 2024. Not to mention the shitstorm if the dems run on "undo orange man"

I'm surprised it's not worse
