There are 50 individual states that are responsible for how the run their own state. Trump can apply pressure, verbally and by withholding fed money, but the governor of each state was/is responsible for their own people. The US is not one country. It is 50 states joined in a republic. None of the 50 governors gave a damn about the virus early on. They're lazy political bastards.

How so, since each governor decides which polices to implement and what not to do? There is no federal dictatorship, just the threats of withholding money for a state that chooses to go their own way.

Trump supporters make excuses for everything - the most basic function of the government is to help and protects its citizens. This wasn't borne out of some random state, it's a worldwide issues and our initial response to it was as laughable as the thought you still put into defending the clown show that is Donald Trumps presidency.
