I'm a huge fan of FF7. The 90's were such a different time and I feel FF7 came out at the perfect time as well. As much as I was excited for the remake, the more I think about it, I can't see how they can even come close to making it as great as the original. There's so much to the game, the man hours involved must be staggering to remake a game that complex to today's standards. Personally, I wonder who their target audience is. To us old timers, I feel the remake can't be made to be better than the original, and I think the younger generations probably have no interest in it. I hate to say it, but I think square has put themselves in a no win situation.

I agree completely. I don't know how they'll recreate the tone of ff7 in a modern context. Seems almost impossible! I'm sure it'll be fun, but I'm not letting myself get overly excited for the exact reasons you stated.

Can't say I disagree with any of that. It's a very different company than it was all those years ago, and even though some of the original team are working on it, I just don't trust them anymore. FFXV was in development hell for over a decade and they still released it half finished, and the way things seem to be going with lack of real updates with FFVII, I'm less inclined to believe they're carefully crafting the best version they can and gradually resigning myself to another clusterfuck of a release.

Thinking back on the magic of the PSX era of FF makes it laughable that now we have to get bits and pieces of such a story oriented series filled in by sporadically released DLC.
