That water must have been "treated."

I must concede my ignorance of the overall situation before watching your link. My comment was made assuming the envoy had been purposely poisoned.

The months leading up to Bush's invasion and my impotent anger at the obvious lies being told to justify the slaying of innocents, are still clear to me. Not to mention this power vacuum created by deposing Saddam. So I will follow your sub and comment only when I understand what is being talked about.

It is hard to sustain the level of anger I felt then, and I have had to cool my jets somewhat for self-protection, but you are doing something about it. Thank you.

Hey, don't worry about it -- I honestly didn't even interpret your comment with that meaning.

Yeah, nothing ever since the independence of Iraq from the Brits have been going in Iraq's favor. We've had countless dictators, genocides, separatist movements, environmental damage, and so much more -- and the Iraq war was the final nail in the coffin that permanently wrecked the country. Kind of contradictory to literally everything in Iraq's history before that, beginning thousands of years ago.

Feel free to express your opinion here, no matter what it is, and ask whatever question! This community here is small᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎᠎ nonexistent so I'm hoping this sub will grow as the site grows :) ᠎ ᠎

You are Iraqi?

At one time Iraq was fertile with an extensive irrigation system, or am I mixed up? Then the Mongols destroyed the whole system? I don't know the exact date Saidit was started, but it is barely over a month old, I think, so more will be coming you can be sure.

You're right, the reason the very first civilization on earth flourished in (modern day) Iraq was because of the fertile land from the two rivers. Mongols did destroy Baghdad, the that was rather long ago -- the main reason the country is doing poorly was because of British colonialism, then Saddam Hussain, Iran-Iraq war, Gulf War, American invasion.... and finally poor governance and spread of religious extremism.

All these things and more collectively lead to what you see right now, the 5th most oil-rich country in the world looking like the poorest one.

You are Iraqi?

Yup! I'm an ethnic Assyrian (you can tell from the flair) - Assyrians are the indigenous people of Iraq, Syria, Iran and Turkey. Our history goes back thousands of years, we claim descent from the ancient Assyrians of Mesopotamia. We are what's usually labeled as "Iraqi Christians" (but there's more to us than just religion - we're a distinct ethnic group different from Arabs or Turks, have our own language and culture.) Although in the past 2 centuries, particularly in 1915, our numbers have dwindled from millions to a few hundred thousands, and we're at a steady decline as more and more people are being killed or are immigrating abroad.

British colonialism, then Saddam Hussain, Iran-Iraq war, Gulf War, American invasion.... and finally poor governance and spread of religious extremism.

That was a long string of bad luck, ending with US bombs and rockets killing thousands of civilians on the first night of the war, because Saddam had "weapons of mass destruction" that no one ever found. And Bush II is still walking the earth, for now. His father is still crawling around a room somewhere or drooling in his shoes. Thanks for that good information and I will look at those links.
