Voat is now ruled by a predominantly WN clique who use it to circlejerk over how much they hate blacks and jews.

That's pretty much how it's always been.

I was there 4 years ago (right after Whoaverse) and it was pretty different. There was still an element of 4chan /pol/ style ignorant shit ("everything is a Jewish conspiracy! You question it? You're a Jew!"), but it was more relegated to non-main subs.

The more Reddit banned disreputable, fringe subreddits, the more hateful and ignorantly political Voat became. It was a positive feedback loop, shutting down more normal users, which drove them away and emboldened the most radical and noisiest, which accelerated things more, etc.

Ironically, Voat proved its own point about unchecked immigration destroying an existing culture. However, if they had followed their own advice (shared about fifty times a day, even on pictures of cats) any cultural immigrant or even sympathizer would be tortured and shot in front of their family. Then they'd blame the Jews.

Not always. I wasn't there at the very beginning of Whoaverse, but I remember it being a much more open place in the early days of Voat.
