how he "scammed his way into reddit founder status"

As I recall, Schwartz and the reddit founders were financed by the same guy, or group. When the social networking site Schwartz founded failed, either he or the finance people convinced the reddit founders to accept him for his programming skills. "We can save our investment!" or "You can save your investment!" Regardless, the reddit kids were essentially scammed into giving founder status to a scumbag who had failed in his own endeavor, and who then bailed on his obligation after gaining founder status at reddit.

"Fuck you, I'm never coming back"

People running reddit in that first year or so were not shy about discussing office political issues on reddit. After he quit working on programming for the site and fled to Thailand, that is the message they said he sent back.

So the irony of calling him a "reddit founder" is particularly ironic.

"his debt to society"

Meh, I suppose that's another debt he skipped out on as he left town. At least we're shut of him now.
