You want me to rebuild them as SVGs (and GIFs/PNGs) for you? I'm guessing they already exist somewhere, but if not, lemme know.

No, I want you to launch your novel v0.1 so we can start a PeerTube empire

[–]JasonCarswell 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (9 children)

LOL Saved! THAT is what I need to hear every day!

Once I get the story done and shared, I know I'll get feedback, good, bad, or ugly. I can work with/from that!!! There will always be room to improve. I can expect there will be at the very least a trickle of support from our community. At best I'll have strong demand for more.

I also have a Trillion Dollar Idea™ (in parts) that I need to share - and it applies to SaidIt, PeerTube, etc. The problem with this is it's not simple and critically it needs to be a well drafted manifesto that compels people to share it far and wide. Maybe I/we can draft it in a wiki.

I've also been struck with some crazy ass inspiration lately. Ironically, I also feel a sense of mental constipation in that I don't know how exactly all the pieces fit together so that I can push it out. I've been disappointed with myself and lack of focus/productivity for a few months, but there was something bubbling. I was hoping to start New Years to do that, but I actually don't mind right now because it's all taking shape in my head.

Further, because so much was coming down to me from God /s I wasn't quite sure which direction I should pursue. I was considering presenting it to SaidIt to ask for their view (mine might be biased). Then it occurred to me that I should figure out a way to just duet, but all of them, simultaneously. A trick indeed. But the important trick is to do it WHILE sharing all of it - thus raising funds for PeerTube Empire™, tools, my gardens, animators, etc. There are some surprises - not just for you, but some for me too. I wasn't expecting to go to some of these places - yet, if not me, then who? Mysterious I know, but it will all come out soon enough. February I can buy a domain (or few) so I can share the name(s). I don't like squatting on 3+ domains, so maybe soon I'll start basic sites for them. I need a new much cheaper registrar. Last year I think I got scammed. $60 to squat on 3 domains for a year - WTF?!?!?

Tonight I'm tearing apart some soggy snowy furniture. And a bit rusty in places. I waited too long. Someone else's junk is material I can build with. I'm so poor that I am recycling shit for the wood to make shelves and stuff from. I'm so dirt poor I can't even buy dirt for my garden. I'm so poor... actually, it's not really very funny.

While I think PeerTube is great, IMO it's not as important as the decentralized archiving and even more importantly spreading the idea that everyone must invest in and have their own home servers. More on that later. What's funny about you calling it a PeerTube Empire, is that a couple days ago I realized I've been conceptualizing my own little media empire to be organized on SaidIt. And by "mine" I mean that it's my seed idea that ideally will attract like minds (online and locally) to collaborate it into existence, including many more of my sub-idea projects I haven't share yet (much lower priorities).

As for the other things you sent me. They broke my mind. It's been 7 years since I used FreeNAS and they've basically solved most of those limits. I started a review for you, but my research of comparing and questions spiraled out of control and I had to step back. And I need to be sober. Alt-Censored seems to be the thing I'd been hoping for. They are experts and dedicated so I'm guessing they've got most of it all figured out compared to my half-assed hoarding. I have yet to delve deeper there.

So while I hate the cult of personality thing, I realize I will need to do it to a point. For example, people understand that Reddit has been corrupted from Aaron Schwartz's vision. Regardless if he was a people person or not - we know there was a vision. I've avoided making a sub about me, and am now trying to figure out how to make an engaging progress blog (and more!) about greater ideas within a vision. It's simple but it's complicated and most parts of it have many stages and levels of completion.

I know this doesn't make much sense right now for you. The ultimate 2 points are: 1) I'm trying to figure out how to share while I work. Importantly, it will be more compelling with illustrations. 2) I had some plans but in figuring out #1 I recently thought of a whole bunch more stuff to be integrated into my grand scheme. It may soon be time to make my own wiki to dump all my projects. Maybe on a dedicated Raspberry Pi or something?

Reddit has been corrupted from Aaron Schwartz's vision.

Whatever you think of the original reddit founders now, Schwartz was the failed site owner who scammed his way into reddit founder status. I was there on reddit when Schwartz, having gained founder status, told everyone to fuck off and flew to Thailand to take drugs and do whatever else. It was a massive topic.

That movie they made about him is an excellent example of propaganda being out of control.

It's just unfortunate that he was also able to skip out on his debt to society.

Interesting.

I like drugs and vacations so I don't begrudge him that.

I'm curious to know about how he "scammed his way into reddit founder status", why he "told everyone to fuck off", and "his debt to society".

It's a compelling documentary, regardless of its reality. I know I'd hate it if someone made one on me. Especially in a day and age where saying "fuck" or "scamdemic" is more offensive than perpetual wars. So far I've killed zero people, so I'm not that bad despite my endless flaws and mistakes.

how he "scammed his way into reddit founder status"

As I recall, Schwartz and the reddit founders were financed by the same guy, or group. When the social networking site Schwartz founded failed, either he or the finance people convinced the reddit founders to accept him for his programming skills. "We can save our investment!" or "You can save your investment!" Regardless, the reddit kids were essentially scammed into giving founder status to a scumbag who had failed in his own endeavor, and who then bailed on his obligation after gaining founder status at reddit.

"Fuck you, I'm never coming back"

People running reddit in that first year or so were not shy about discussing office political issues on reddit. After he quit working on programming for the site and fled to Thailand, that is the message they said he sent back.

So the irony of calling him a "reddit founder" is particularly ironic.

"his debt to society"

Meh, I suppose that's another debt he skipped out on as he left town. At least we're shut of him now.

TIL. Thanks.

Were you the one making cutting boards?

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

No. That sounds familiar though.

Also, I recently saw a nifty DIY video with some he made for folks at Xmas. Typically I wouldn't give a shit but man those were brilliant. A shame to cut on them.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Yeah someone was selling cutting boards. I don't remember who though. I wanted one. I still want one.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I looked at hundreds of thumbnails of the endless YouTube videos. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=cutting+board I scoured my screenshots and to my surprise didn't find it. The one I'm looking for may not tickle everyone's fancy but I just love the design of it. I'm sure I'll see that guy's work again and when I do I can find it. I follow many DIY channels.

In my dreams I'd get a Farmbot, a 3D printer, and a CNC and make lots of neat shit. And maybe even document it for YouTube.

just duet

yesss

I'm so dirt poor I can't even buy dirt for my garden.

Hhahaa amen, that bagged dirt adds up quick.

While I think PeerTube is great, IMO it's not as important as the decentralized archiving and even more importantly spreading the idea that everyone must invest in and have their own home servers.

Fully agreed. I would substitute home server for any server though, to be pedantic, as long as you own and control it it's just as good as home serving.

I know this doesn't make much sense right now for you.

Good :)

1) I'm trying to figure out how to share while I work. Importantly, it will be more compelling with illustrations.

Twitch where you can get donations live? I like it.

Maybe on a dedicated Raspberry Pi or something?

The pi can fly!
