You're wrong too to be honest. Marxism, which typifies the type of anti-capitalist left-wing that you are referring to, came along a lot later than the birth of the left/right divide. Many would consider it just as much of a bastardisation of the left as the current woke bullshit from the left. Simply put, the left wing stands against the Aristocracy and speaks for the rights of the common man. Marx conflated the aristocracy with the "capitalist class", but originally the common man just wanted to be free to trade their own labour and have the same rights as the aristocracy. "Equal rights" stemmed from this division of aristocracy and ordinary people, and the notion that all men should be equal under the law is the result of the left's first victory. Successive civil rights movements have pushed the envelope further, but they had nothing to do with capitalism aside from the fact the landed gentry inherited wealth which gave them rights their workers did not have. Communism and Marxism are alien to western culture and the history of enlightenment that led to our left/right divide. Applying it here is no different from the clowns that claim Islamic fundamentalists are right wing - they do not share our history and have no conception of the term.

A rising tide really did lift all boats. Remember back in the 1970s, when janitor was a union job with benefits? Well, it did up until our elites decided to crush the working class in favor of neoliberalism. Destroy the American worker in favor of moving jobs overseas to benefit hostile countries who hate us.
