Booo Cloudflare!!!

Shame on you!

[–]IamRedBeard 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (66 children)

Yes, shame on them for having Morals and getting rid of a Loli site that promotes misogyny and hate. How backwards and amoral do you have to be to see this as a bad thing?

[–]bobbobbybob 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I can tell you've never spent any time there. Loli posters get met with a barrage of rejection and criticism. Misogynists get met with a barrage of people promoting family and love.

The problem with free speech, is every arsehole gets a say. Most anons reject degeneracy and hatred, and care about their communities.

[–]IamRedBeard 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I spent some time there back in the early 00's. I saw the opposite of what you describe, which is why I decided to promote it no further, and it has continued to carry a shady reputation, so I never felt a need to go back.

If you found actual wholesome support there and people you could lean on - then I'm sorry other shitheads messed that up for you. I imagine you as a minority, though.

Maybe the next time somebody calls you a fag, it can warm the cockles of your heart, with fond sentimental memories.

Shit, it's probably already back up.

[–]bobbobbybob 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Dealing with being insulted is part of the process of growing up. "OP is gay" on your first few attempts at content are a sobering experience.

After a while, insults roll off like water off a duck's back and rightly so. We live in an overly sensitive world, and it will be the death of us.

And yes, its back, with a blockchain bunker.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (62 children)

They didn't promote anything.

This crap had nothing to do with 8chan. Cloudflare has no business censoring them.

[–]IamRedBeard 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (38 children)

Wrong. It is Precisely their business. It was a Business decision. Did you read their letter at all? Did you see the reasons they gave? And here is the thing about what you call censorship, because I think you are confused about it.

The freedom of speech gives you the right to criticize the government without fear of arrest. That means you can say for instance: Donald Trump is a treasonous carpet bagging Wall Street Yankee con artist warm handed mouth breathing red eyed bastard son of a bitch. And I cant be arrested for it.

But If I walked into a store that made MAGA Hats and said the same thing - They can show my ass the door. You could say they were trying to censor me - and that would be untrue. It is not censorship to show some shithead that is messing up your business the door.

It's CAPITALISM

The hate sight known as 8 chan will be up and running again by tomorrow. If it isn't up now. Im not going to check cause I dont want to end up on a Pedo list by the FBI - but you do you, buddy.

[–]bobbobbybob 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Ah, as soon as i read the content, I knew the username.

/u/HeyImSancho has an illustrative post and the 8chan FBI setup.

QUOTE: "This is a very serious thing because if one reads the 8chan court document, the FBI is accusing people who RESPONDED to THEIR OWN POSTS ATTEMPTING TO PROVOKE PEOPLE as though they were inciting violence and therefore are guilty of federal crimes. This means that the government encouraged crimes and then people who said ANYTHING in response are at risk of being arrested.

It is quite reminiscent of a case in 2016, where during a massive “child porn” bust, it was uncovered that the FBI was running with the authorization of the government approximately two dozen of such websites, making up nearly half of all of the major websites promoting abuse material on the deep web:"

This is essentially entrapment.

It's it reasonable for 8chan to be punished for the FBI entrapment if it's members?

[–]IamRedBeard 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (35 children)

So you start a site and have no moderation. You allow Loli porn, and hate speech and some really dark misogyny that goes mostly uncensored and then want to whine when you get the worst of the FBI trolling your site?

So the FBI hung out on the darkest, shittiest places on the dark web and then wated for people to come in have a chat and then snagged them?

So the FBI went in to places that had a reputation for being Violent and then acted like other members - and when the hottest of the hotheads agreed to go killing folk they got arrested? That sounds about right. They controlled the environment and bypassed the shit talkers and went straight to the folks they figured would actually take action. That is a sting, not entrapment. Why wonder where the bomb is going to go off when you can control the time and place?

The FBI set up sites on the dark web to catch predators? They set up big signs that said "get your pedo here" and when people waltzed in they got tagged. Again - I see it threading the needle of the law - but if people weren't trolling for naked kids - they wouldn't have gotten caught.

Honestly I love when armchair lawyers like to scream entrapment. They ususally dont know what the hell they are talking about.

Ill tell you something about the FBI and Cops in general - The only difference between Pirates, thugs, criminals, sex offenders and reprobates of all kinds and people in law enforcement is a badge, with maybe 4 in 10 that really want to help and make a difference without compromising their morels.

Again. 8chan was/is a despicable place and cloudflare looked the other way as long as it could. 8chan became somebody they cant do business with any more. Its a business decision. And probably a good one. You will have your hate site back in a day or two. Shit - they cant shut down The Pirate Bay - They cant shut down 8chan either.

[–]bobbobbybob 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

you paint a pretty picture to justify your hate, as ever.

glowniggers have been using the site to promote violence since forever.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (33 children)

8chan is an unmoderated forum, and implicitly a free speech platform.

It's apparent to me that you do not support free speech as a personal value.

Freedom of speech can only be described as a value, if and only if, one can say that they support free speech for those people whose message one despises.

I am willing to tolerate just about anything that is stated; assuming that person actually believes what they are saying.

This is the only free speech personal standard that counts. Anything less than this is hypocrisy.

The anti-hate speech position is morally bankrupt.

It's a thinly veiled form of censorship that is used to suppress others.

I am not surprised that you are in favor of this development. Regardless, I support your right to speak freely about your approval.

[–]IamRedBeard 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (29 children)

Categories of speech that are given lesser or no protection by the First Amendment (and therefore may be restricted) include obscenity, fraud, child pornography, speech integral to illegal conduct, speech that incites imminent lawless action, speech that violates intellectual property law, true threats, etc.

all of which are supported on 4chan and 8chan. There is a difference between free speech and the garbage hate that festers in those corners of the internet. I feel they have little purpose other than to keep society in the dark ages.

I just cannot find myself regretting their shut down.

And look - you make some good arguments and on some level I do agree with you but when I reach down deeper I just cant find myself feeling anything but good that they got sanctioned.

I agree with dissension and we should be able to have it. We should be able to voice our displeasure. But these place talk about killin "Nigger, kikes and Jews and nigger lovers" Etc. and that shit just has no place in a dream of a better society. I think places like that take angry misguided extremely smart and promising kids and weaponizes them.

Good riddance.

I stand by my previous comment.

There ya go trooper!

Dig in!

[–]bobbobbybob 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (26 children)

"all of which are supported".

Yet, the only 1stA restriction that users engaged in was obscenity.

Fraud? frowned on, since honesty is important to those ebil nazis

CP? hated with a passion, since it is degenerate.

Speech integral to illegal content? You are confusing the ebil memetic wizards with antifa

speech that incites imminent lawless action? Again confused with current leftist speech everywhere. Most anons simply praise the shit out of events that have occurred. Apart from GTKRWN, of course.

speech that violates intellectual property law? An example of that would be great. Reddit is full of it, distributing movies etc. Anons consider most modern entertainment to be 'shit'.

true threats? kys doesn't count, but again, leftist reddit definitely crosses that line.

The FBI were the ones promoting violence. Most ebil nazis just want a homeland, not to kill.

[–]IamRedBeard 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (25 children)

We are not talking about Reddit here. This is just a muddy water response.

"Most ebil nazis just want a homeland, not to kill."

This is the most asinine response to anything I have ever heard. Since it's coming from you I am completely unsurprised. White nationalists, White Supremacists and modern day Neo-Nazi's Want nothing more than to dominate with their shit ideology at whatever cost. Given enough time and power they will and DO kill. These are the people shooting up places in the last few days. These are the people that drove a car into a crowd and killed a girl. Have you not been paying attention?

My great Grandparents on both sides of my family fought and killed a whole bunch of bastards with their ideology 80 years ago.

That shit has no place in a civilized America. And anybody who follows it shits on the memories of their ancestors who fought killed and died in that war.

GO READ A BOOK

[–]bobbobbybob 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

yep, that's the problem and joy of free speech. People say some dumb and irritating stuff.

Leftists in particular annoy the crap out of me, but in places like 8ch they are not silenced, rather met with facts and debate that they can't censor.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That's a good point.

[–]Mnemonic 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (22 children)

How is Cloudflare censoring them? The blog states that cloudflare's other termination was 2 years ago of 'the daily stormer' and they went to a competitor.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (21 children)

Cloudflare cancelled their contract because of external pressure to shut down and silence 8chan.

Shutting a group down, because of what they are saying is a form of censorship.

Also, see my comment above.

[–]Mnemonic 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (20 children)

external pressure

Where did you get that? This is what the cloudflare blog says:

8chan is among the more than 19 million Internet properties that use Cloudflare's service. We just sent notice that we are terminating 8chan as a customer effective at midnight tonight Pacific Time. The rationale is simple: they have proven themselves to be lawless and that lawlessness has caused multiple tragic deaths. Even if 8chan may not have violated the letter of the law in refusing to moderate their hate-filled community, they have created an environment that revels in violating its spirit. We do not take this decision lightly. Cloudflare is a network provider. In pursuit of our goal of helping build a better internet, we’ve considered it important to provide our security services broadly to make sure as many users as possible are secure, and thereby making cyberattacks less attractive — regardless of the content of those websites. Many of our customers run platforms of their own on top of our network. If our policies are more conservative than theirs it effectively undercuts their ability to run their services and set their own policies. We reluctantly tolerate content that we find reprehensible, but we draw the line at platforms that have demonstrated they directly inspire tragic events and are lawless by design. 8chan has crossed that line. It will therefore no longer be allowed to use our services.

And this seems like just really wanting to use the word censorship:

Shutting a group down, because of what they are saying is a form of censorship.

They didn't 'shut them down', they stopped their contract aka the protection. There are other businesses that would gladly receive their money like the new provider of the daily stormer. Technically, shutting down spammers (aka a group) for spamming (the thing they say) is censorship (a clean saidit).

As a comment on your above comment: If it's an FBI honeypot anyway doesn't this mean Cloudflare sticks it to the man by not protecting that shit anymore?

[–]Tom_Bombadil 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (19 children)

This is complete bullshit.

If it's an FBI honeypot anyway doesn't this mean Cloudflare sticks it to the man by not protecting that shit anymore?

It was a FBI honeypot, so they should have stuck it too the FBI by some then for entrapment on their servers, or the like. Kicking then off is exactly what the FBI wants, so they can focus on a new target.

It is surprising to me Mnemonic, that an intelligent and worldly person such as yourself is duped by Cloudflare's PR statement. There is much more going on here, than this superficial script.

I know for certain that you know better.

[–]Mnemonic 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (18 children)

I know 8ch and I can understand that companies don't want to work for and/or with it.

There is much more going on here, than this superficial script.

Not much except some company PR, cheap stunt for a lot of free like/publicity. Though as I said in my OP reaction to this blogpost: They should have done it way sooner and not as a reaction to yet another shooting.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (17 children)

Not much except some company PR, cheap stunt for a lot of free like/publicity.

"Free publicity" of the heels of multiple false flag shootings that have been deliberately been blamed of 8chan.

If this hoax shooting drill bullshit want being blamed on 8chan, then this wouldn't be an issues.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this was actually some measure of retaliation from the FBI against 8chan for identifying them for their honeypot operations.

The FBI does have a history of covering up for elite pedo rings. Let's not forget the Whitehouse's (Bush senior) Franklin Scandal.

There are some within the FBI who are there to protect the pedos.

[–]Mnemonic 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (16 children)

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this was actually some measure of retaliation from the FBI against 8chan for identifying them for their honeypot operations.

How do you know 8ch isn't all FBI driven in the first place? What even makes you think it's FBI and not CIA?

There are some within the FBI who are there to protect the pedos.

As there are some who use 'free speech' to post CP.

The owner of 8ch just released a statement: https://twitter.com/infinitechan/status/1158688643856420869 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKPdbEAmWGE explicitly stating how they work together with the FBI.
