He revealed that both Firefox and Edge were superior when loading YouTube content when compared to Chrome, and in order to counteract this performance issue, Google switched to using a JavaScript library for YouTube that they knew wasn't supported by Firefox

I Hate it that A LOT of sites now use google-apis thingies. Even The Dutch Public network on the internet switched to that, and because they have some weird drm system in place wince march 1st I can watch public access anymore unless I enable drm and allow google imported js to be run.
