On the one hand, yes, for people accustomed to the old ways where you could do things with the computer, design is trending away from usability

On the other hand, that's boomer cope. The people who came of age when everything was flat buttons are accustomed to it and can deal with it fairly well. Instead of being something you tinker with, people treat a phone as a source of information and computers are big phones; there's no need to be tinkering, they just use it.

Fashion will eventually trend the other way again, as this generation starts to put on their programmer socks as adults, or else the second robot uprising will wipe us all out.

I tend to agree with the premise of this article. Application developers are now depending on the fact that their users have grown up working around glitchy user interfaces.
