Yeah, email has been turned into a giant pain in the ass over "muh spam." It's an example of the power of language. A catchy name for something (at worst) mildly annoying has inserted it into the public consciousness beyond what's reasonable.

Wish someone could invent cute four-letter words for some of our actual problems.

Isn't there one or more people we can hunt down and banish to sub-Saharan Africa where they can stew in their juices about the inequities committed against the masses of commoner folk e-mail users?

One of the problems is that email severs don't allow you the best tools to manage your account. I should be able to use key words in the search and mass delete all the results. That would allow me to quickly clean up the spam. But the big corporations that provide email services are benefiting from forcing you to read the spamers who pay them.
