Municipal Fiber Optics here. I have a Gig up and down for less than $70 a month unlimited and we cut the cable and only stream now. Comcrap sends us junk mail 2 or 3 times a week begging us to come back and they set up in grocery stores almost every day. They even tried going door to door to get people to drop fiber and get Comcrap. AT&T just shruged and basically gave up; they are still an option but I don't know anyone that uses them. Cable companies get really humble when they have competition.

My little Bavarian town gives me a choice of four providers, net the greatest broadband speeds but I have a choice. My son in California has one choice and he pays $100 a month just for internet, if people would fight for betteer things would change however Americans seem to hate the idea of standing up to government.

My little California town gives me a bunch of choices, including a couple cable providers. I use the local internet provider that's been around since the early 90s, and I pay about $80.

The nice thing about using a local provider is being able to walk over to their business and talk to someone, and pay my bill directly.

Like other states, there are terrible areas in California, and many places with high risk. Thankfully, there are people willing to live in those places instead of all trying to cram into the nice places.
