The big companies A/B test UI changes all the time. You can find r/youtube posts going back years before they finally turned off the working interface for good.

Google Maps has degraded in more but subtler ways, but it has changed a lot. Sometimes I get in a mode where I can't remove that strip and it feels like they're shrinking the screen to piss me off. Just reload the fucker.

It's a new permanent change. It only happens when you click on a business to see info or photos.etc: I think it's cause they want me to go mobile only. I won't do it not for all the gold in China. I am guessing your also not on mobile so they are shrinking the screen down to fit better on tiny phone screens. Phone people are generally morons to begin with so they don't know it can be any better and the people who program now are part of that mobile generation mindset.

The internet has rotted to the core and I think part of that is the Mandela Effect as I posted which in this timeline it's 'Always been that way' but not to us who switched.
