atheroma - degeneration of the walls of the arteries caused by accumulated fatty deposits and scar tissue, and leading to restriction of the circulation and a risk of thrombosis. It is basically a scar which evolved into clotted purse with pus. It didn't hurt, but it looked like that.

I don't know about minoxidil, but finasteride can have some considerable side effects.
