The guy who started SaidIt, magnora7, is modern scum and therefore hates free speech. But the guy currently running SaidIt, /u/d3rr, has repented from modern culture and therefore generally supports free speech. This is where things stand now.

I repent and embrace free speech, alas I'm just a janny here.

How can we fix this? Can you fork with the data? I wouldn't mind financing a SaidIt clone.

Yeah sure, someone could take all public saidit data and setup a new site. SaidIt user accounts would have to be individually re-created and otherwise dealt with.

There are probably safer long term codebase choices though too. This is all python 2 still.

personally, i'm into lemmy and letting multiple small sites/instances handle the liability of hosting free speech. I'm not in a hurry to have the full legal liability of owning/hosting a free speech site like say prime Ruqqus and prime Voat. (Edit: but I very much strive to volunteer my anonymous services in support of free speech)

Are you willing to have a deeper conversation on the subject of how best to have free speech social forums? If yes, start a new thread somewhere on this and let's dig into the details.

Imo the tech is there, a site just needs a principled owner and admin team to throw down for free speech according to the US legal standard. Ruqqus and Voat were both fairly successful for sticking to this plan. There are no legal or technical or financial limitations, just a lack of balls.

But yes I'm always willing to discuss these things, and I'm always willing to help out. I've gained some decent skills around hosting controversial shit, by helping out with with place for so long.

I am a firm believer in self moderation too, users should always be able to block subs/communities and other users if they are "too undesirable".

We and other banned subs was what kept ruqqus alive but ruqqus admins wanted to virtue signaling

ya'll are welcome to be here if you can abide by the strict no advocating violence rule. it hasn't gone so well in the past.

Can you give an example what is allowed and what isn't? How triggerhappy are the local admins (and you)?

What about meme glorification? Like calling stuff Tedpilled, or advocating for marxist-rodgerism? Or a phrase I read elsewhere: "May Saint Rodger smite them with his BMW", so jokes in that veneer.

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

nope, too edgy. this is not a free speech site.

[–]fschmidt 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Is this rule specific to /s/Incels and not applicable to other subs? For example, if I glorified Joshua from the Bible who was clearly a mass murderer in /s/Religion, would this be a violation? Actually what about glorifying God? God is a mass murderer, so would this be a violation?

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

No glorifying murder, whether by God or anything else.

[–]Zvezda 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Why not by God?

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Because fuck Old Testament God

It should not be the case. All our rules on ruqqus are the same to the ones on here. The only issue is if our memes are edgy enough to be considered advocation of violence, which was not really the case for our group the only issue was that the admins over there banned users any for of criticism of protected groups or memes that mention elliot or other ERs. That and ban evaders who kept spamming accounts. Edgy users typically got banned because our group was tame compared to others.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

memes that mention elliot or other ERs

Memeing about ERs is not going to fly. That's glorifying people known primarily for murder, the site owner has already said no. If someone wants to actively moderate and take this stuff down, that could work. https://saidit.net/static/PyramidDebate.jpg

[–]takavoid513[S] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Understood. We mainly talked about personal issues and coping. We never really liked to talk nor talked about the nutcases. We just need a place to cope. This could minimally be an issue for news related topics that are posted and discussed, but most are on the realm on how it effects us incels in general.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

that sounds fine. as long as there's an attempt to generally avoid advocating violence/breaking the rules.

It looks like this thread led to the decision to make a real free speech reddit clone. See here and here.
