not sure if they can be either happy or sad. they're not conscious. They're like pavolov's dog, I guess he was happy when he heard a bell ring but is that really a mental thought or just a reflex?

You can tell that they really aren’t thinking too deeply about anything when speaking to them. They’re thinking about their next doctor’s office appointment, a missed call from their sister, the football game score. They’re so good at distracting themselves, I don’t even think they realize they’re doing it.
