    There's a great old post, I think from a Chan, that explains this. It was about a guy at a gym, but it works here too.

    Imagine that you have a compulsion for taking selfies, and sharing them on social media. You get likes, shares, etc. People get to see an image of you as attractive, or hard working etc. People orbit you.

    But then you have to balance this with not seeming narcissistic, or full of yourself. So you say that the point of this image is your annoyance with ugly gym man, or traffic, or some peasant in a rice field in the background behind your cute bikini.

    It's all reading too much into this if it's really just a joke. But even then, the 'joke' can be just another excuse, or shield against criticism for just posting pictures for attention.
