Says dude, shortly before unexpected 'suicide'.

I work with someone who built something similar.

He added a homemade electrolysis system that produced O2 and H2 by using surplus power generated by the alternator (as the engine runs) on a old 6 cylinder bronco.
Increased the mileage from 16 mpg to 20 mpg, and eliminated a knocking sound.

The electrodes are consumed quickly and this quickly contaminated the distilled water. They sampled multiple materials, and 316 stainless worked the best (of readily available tool shop materials).

They also equipped a couple of farming combines with improved versions to increases fuel efficiency.

The technology is developed, but I'm pretty sure it's been patented by some energy interest.

Or a Li-ion battery? I think that would do basically the same thing.

Nah. I'm pretty sure you'd need to custom modify much of the vehicle.
First you'd need to install the electric motor to utilize the Li-ion battery, etc.

A Li-ion battery would also provide resistance to the alternator. I don't see how this alone would boost the mpg, but I kind of see how it might eliminate the knocking (read: I don't know enough about cars for this to sound implausible).

Just generating O₂ and H₂ via electrolysis and then doing nothing with that doesn't speed your car up. It just makes it more explosive if you decide to take up smoking, or stall and have to turn the ignition key again.

Something.

Erm… I don't think this is possible. At the very least, the journalist knows nothing about it, and is misquoting the engineer. You can't use water as a fuel to release oxygen, because it costs energy to do that. You don't get energy out of it.

Came here to say this, hydrogen can be used as fuel (don't put it in your fuel tank though, SERIOUSLY) because the combustion reaction is exothermic. Interestingly quite a few people seem to be buying in to this.

In this house we obey the laws of thermodynamics.

And how is this invention not obeying the laws of thermodynamics? In this sub we post articles about hydrogen developments. If you're not happy with that, there are many other subs available.

Sorry, I was going by the article title claiming that it runs on distilled water, i.e. a water-powered car.

The article itself makes it sound more like the distilled water is used in combination with hydrogen, i.e. not actually powered by distilled water.

I'm not an expert in the science side of it but I'm rather interested to see how Indian Government reacts if/when he succeeds with the help of the Japanese. This has become one major problem in India. We do not have many backers or supporters for our indie projects that hold a great potential for making things better. I think it is mostly because of the high population count.

I have no idea. It's an article on a webpage.
