List of source of strains:

EDIT: here's a project with a list of strains that /u/markus_naslund has started: https://old.reddit.com/r/HumanMicrobiome/comments/aceyab/commercially_available_probiotic_strain_database/

You can PM me for additions so I can keep this updated. If google will not tell you the source you'll have to contact the company and ask. The vast majority are food-sourced so it might be easier to just keep a list of human-sourced.

We have to keep in mind that there is a difference between strains sourced from human stool (which may be transient environmental microbes) and strains sourced from the intestinal wall (which are more likely to be host native). Then we have to keep in mind that not every human-sourced probiotic will be beneficial, or significantly so. Which is why I primarily focus on FMT, and wait till there are proven benefits for new/old strains and simply list the main ones here.

I came here expecting a "natural health essential oils and magic"-type pseudo-spam post, so I'm absolutely floored by this. This is insightful.

Thanks :)

I've been following the microbiome literature very closely, and the wiki here is very extensive as well.

I started drinking Pu'er tea, which is a fermented tea that has lots of probiotics. But it's not all foamy like kambucha, it's like regular tea. It has done amazing things for my gut health, especially in combination with green tea.

Dude glad to hear this. I knew I was on the right track passive agressively nagging you about kombucha. Glad you found a paletable alternative.

Yeah it's good stuff. I even had a few glasses of chocolate pu'er today! Pretty good.

Hey just a random thing, but I noticed when I view this sub in dark mode, I cannot see the text I type in to the comment text box. I think it has to do with the text overlay that shows before you type anything.

It's actually due to the second textbox{ rule in https://saidit.net/static/compiled-css/reddit.z-E2xc4c7EM.css, that explicitly sets color: white;. /u/MaximilianKohler If you want help with the CSS, I'm happy to oblige, but it's difficult to debug the issue without being able to see the unminified version.

Ah I figured it out. It's not that the text color changed, but the text box background color changed. It's normally grey, with white text, in night mode. He changed it to be a white background text box. That's this, in the CSS

.commentarea .usertext-edit textarea{ background: #FFFFFF;

should instead be

.commentarea .usertext-edit textarea{ background: #505050;

in night mode. /u/MaximilianKohler you might be interested in this too.

I copied over the css from the reddit sub. I've changed that line. Did it fix it?

[–]magnora7 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Nope unfortunately the text box is still white background with white text in nightmode.

Fixed now.

Nice, good solution to just make it gray for both

[–]magnora7 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Ah very nice catch! I think you mean 'textarea' though, not 'textbox'.

I think it's part of this sub's custom CSS, and not part of the saidit code. So only he can fix it.

[–]wizzwizz4 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I hate it when my brain tries to autocorrect me when I'm typing.

Yeah, you're right about it being part of the custom CSS. Over on Reddit I've got people to make me a mod to help with CSS issues, but MaximilianKohler's got no reason to believe that I won't mess up this perfectly good sub while I'm at it, so I won't press the issue.

Do we have partial mod permissions here? If not, that's another feature request to add to the list.

[–]magnora7 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I've never considered partial mod permissions before. I don't think that exists. Definitely something we could take a look at, I've added it to our list.

I'm guessing Max just copy/pasted a custom CSS theme from reddit, and that's why this problem came up. Because reddit doesn't have a nightmode and saidit does. Even if he can't do the nightmode textarea background a different color, he could just make both day and night gray with the color #505050 and that should solve the visibility issues. That'd be the easy fix
