The "Man Up" message was more prevalent in the past. It's gotten weaker in recent decades.
Children of WW2 vets got a lifetime earful of "Man Up" attitude, and their suicide rates were lower than todays.
I'm fairly certain that women attempt suicide more frequently than men; typically using less lethal methods.
Men attempt suicide less frequently, but typically with more lethal methods (guns).
Also, where's the supporting evidence in this article? This is a fluff piece.
