I have anxiety, benzos really help. I'm afraid to take em unless I'm having a panic attack because of the horror stories I have heard about them (and my own psych med experiences), and the fact that they are so effective scares me a little.

I was on Klonopin for 10 years and a few others here have been on long term benzos. I got cut off suddenly, half my body went numb, and don't remember the next 3 months. You can't really depend on modern doctors not to do stupid shit like that because they're worried your legitimate medicine might earn them scrutiny from the DEA and they care more about their own ass than yours.

I see, so long term use is possible, but it's more likely to be yanked leaving me in a very bad place. Appreciate you sharing your experience, its hard to get objective opinions about this stuff. I hate both anxiety and dependence on overlords for my continued sanity, its a tough call, lol

Towards the end it was causing a paradoxical response, so it's got sustainability issues, still, that's not the proper way to go off benzos tho, having my doctor dodge my refill and appt requests until I was in full blown withdrawal to let me know he was quitting.

No, I would be furious. A doctor of all people should understand the kind of suffering that would cause, i'm still amazed how cavalier doctors are with taking patients off drugs, but I have seen it plenty of times with SSRI's and opiates
