I've had a terrible week. I've got lower back, sleep, focus, and depression problems. It's my fault for buying too much heavy cheap/unhealthy food and carrying it home in one haul rather than going back a second time sooner. To top that off I have a half inch of basement flooding I can't do much about until it stops raining in several days. Nonetheless I power through as best I can. That's why I've been unresponsive this week, but this is not an excuse, nor is the following. It's an open explanation for anyone who cares.
Today I indulged. I created six, yes 6, subsaidits at once. I mentioned that I would do this, though not in this way all at once. I hope you'll read and accept this justification.
As you may know, I like to place my posts as properly as possible. I'd be happier with metatags and/or better search. I want sooo many more categories, however...
For about a month now I've been collecting unposted links in folders to be made into practical topical subs. For the most part I can share posts settling for extant subsaidits even though I want more and better titles, but at least it is functional if not ideal. For example, I'd want Filmmaking, MovieAnalysis, MovieReviews, MovieTrailers, Screenwriting, and ShortFilms - but for now Movies will do. Or I'd like Technocracy but Technology and/or RulingClass will suffice.
Further below is my list of folders and associated number of links within to share. Sure I can artificially seek this content out, but these is only what I've come across this month without looking. Maybe it's not the best metric, but it seems semi-rational. It turns out most of them are just in the low single digits indicating these topics are low volume. Apparently that's not desired on Reddit and by default SaidIt, understandable from some views, narrow sighted by others. As all but two of my high-volume spikes have been dealt with, it seems to me that there is really no great urgency to make the rest on my personal wishlist, also listed below. (Not to be confused with the greater list with everything conceivable, now at /s/SaidIt/wiki/SubsaiditContenders .)
So now my subsaidit obsession has essentially run out of fuel, and while I still may want more, there's really no need for more. Therefore I won't be driven and focused on this so much anymore. I'll still make some, but with this "surge" out of the way, the pressure is off, I'm pretty done, and I've really got other stuff to focus on. I sure didn't expect this.
By happy coincidence this happens to sync up nicely with my May Day major project launches...
So why the surge? Four reasons:
I have 4 subs that are tied together. My 2 big projects, not open for posts or comments, intended to host published updates and developments of my creative projects. The third sub is the name of my intended production company that will deal with all other aspects of these projects, management, production, finances, etc. Those 3 are restricted only for publishing. The fourth is for open discussion and feedback. These will be my new dwelling place for years to come.
It's easier just to configure them all at once. Adding 2 more didn't seem that bad.
May 1, aka May Day, has historic roots that most people in the West have forgotten, as intended by the cultural engineers. If you don't know what I'm talking about, do yourself a favour and look into socialist history. It's not all bad as the propaganda brainwashing they feed you.
I don't like rules and generally do my own thing. But I respect SaidIt and try to willingly abide the rules, despite this pseudo loophole. I hadn't thought about this until late, the evening of April 30th. I knew about the loophole, and intended to use the alias for the sub, but I never premeditated a cluster surge or I would have mentioned it earlier. I don't like dicks who do something and ask permission later. Maybe I'm a dick. Maybe I'm not as the abstention for 6 weeks will nullify the present dickishness. Am I an asstroll? Decide for yourself. Will this be worth it? Give me some time then decide for yourself.
"But the limit ! ! !"
Every week on the regular I've created a new sub, on Fridays. I intend to skip the next six Fridays. I can skip more if I'm asked to do penance or something. I have no intentions of doing any surge again, and obviously it's not a secret because I'm telling you. I even said I would use these alt accounts to do so, in this post: "SaidIt Survey : Am I Bad? Naming the unnamed, a confessional.".
These are the dates I will skip to not exceed my fair allotment:
- 2019-05-04 - 1
- 2019-05-11 - 2
- 2019-05-18 - 3
- 2019-05-25 - 4
- 2019-06-01 - 5
- 2019-06-08 - 6
- 2019-06-15 - ?... The Ides of June.
These are my new subs:
I registered these domains today, though I don't have anything in mind for them other than to eventually have contact and donation information on them:
- GlossedAndProfound.com
- BittersweetSeeds.com
- Trutherism101.com
Born in sin. Was it worth it? Yes, for May Day.
With the new surge of Reddit refugees I find it harder than ever to keep up to all the content and culture and even the chat. I will be withdrawing from that stuff in general even more so. I don't expect to be posting as much either or keeping up on current events. Too bad I never got around to setting up some bots on some subs. It would have been extremely convenient.
I still intend to help develop SaidIt in every way I can, via ideas, community, wiki, and graphics mostly. I intend to dwell less on repeating content and more on creating content and improving this site where I can, and trying to help document its evolution in that IG article. Please don't hesitate to ask for anything but don't be surprised if I don't get to it right away.
I also want to help a sister MediaWiki site happen, whether it's an alliance with /u/Robin of WikiSpooks or even if I have to buy another domain and host something like Wikindoo.it, WikiPla.net, FreezePeaches.com, or whatever name we democratically come up with. This secondary sister site would provide auxiliary services and duties to this community. From hosting media, other files, and full data archives for decentralized backups, to beginning migrations to decentralized platforms, to conspiracy research and truther-like encyclopedia resources, and as a social wiki place for people to post blogs, essays, photo albums, vanity pages, make lists, do projects, etc. A wiki can be more than just an encyclopedia and I see no need in re-writing or reinventing the encyclopedia when there already are many, each with pros and cons, not easily improved upon with so few.
MediaWiki, its toolset, and its support are vastly superior to the old Reddit-wiki. They've been developing it as their primary thing globally for over a dozen years. Reddit had a basic mark down wiki on the side and stopped open developing it. Maybe there's a way to create a Reddit-style interface on a MediaWiki and port the database over. MediaWiki is light years ahead with a strong future regardless what we do. Maybe Everipedia is an even better option. Regardless, if proven worthy in time, it would be easy enough to simply transfer all extant Reddit-wiki over to a new one. Maybe our new wiki will boom but I wouldn't count on it. I'd simply like to see it as auxiliary support for the main SaidIt site, much like the IRC chat and DownTheMemoryHole are great additional utilities.
You can count on me to help if I can, wherever I can, wiki or otherwise, with this SaidIt community.
Now I have a lot of towels and things to wash, a sore back to ignore, and some low-mental-strain pop media to distract and digest. Maybe tomorrow I'll try to catch up.
