How on earth could this have been a surprise? Of course a Catholic hospital following Catholic doctrine is not going to provide elective sterilization.

My dr was shocked when I needed care and wanted to go to a non-religious hospital. This is something I think a lot of people don't know or think about - Churches running hospitals and dictating what they can and can't do.
