For the person downthread who responded to my post: You don't get it and never will. The GC crowd was manipulated and used by truly evil forces. People like the despicable Heather Higgins of the radical right "Independent" Women's Forum, founded as a group supporting Clarence Thomas, deliberately targeted naive "feminists" and other women on the left by exploiting this issue. WoLF and WDI-USA were and are complete tools of the Council for National Policy. Their stance on ERA was and is a giant red flag. Their opposition was right out of Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum. They were only too happy to partner with the right for resources. Total sellouts and frauds.

People like you who are one-issue voters are a big problem because you are easily led and cannot see the big picture. You are hopeless and know nothing about US politics.

You were had by the right. Period.

I feel sad about Ovarit shutting down. I was mostly a lurker but it was the only website where I felt safe to post about gender critical stuff. I wonder why girl_undone didn't ask someone else to help her with the website.

[–]WrongToy[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I mean, there’s a definite aspect of “if I don’t stick around you can’t either” going around with her.

[–]tomboyeurope 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I agree! There is a "If I don't stick around you can't either" vibe...🤷

Hi, everyone. Just came over here from over there. I’m highly disappointed, but a had a feeling after the shutdown in November.

[–]InattentiveGiraffe 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's extraordinarily sad, and Ovarit was a crucial part of building a gender-critical community. However, if anything, this experience has proven that no matter what happens, we will rise from the ashes and continue terfing :D

[–]Understanderson 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

[–]emptiedriver 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I wonder how many people are still around here... looking through my profile here I see I used to post here fairly regularly, but then it sort of faded out and I forgot about it. I would come back if others did. Same name as Ovarit..

[–]arcticbasket 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Please can we use this site for all of the conversations we used to have on Ovarit? I saw lots of posts about discord servers, but I don't want yet another thing to download.

[–]WrongToy[S] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

All topics on oVarit can be discussed here even if the topic is not gc but something like abortion. I don’t see myself setting up dozens of other sites to emulate the circle concept. I found it less complicated on the old r/gc where in fact we did post on women’s lib topics

[–]arcticbasket 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Of course! The circles were so confusing because they all had very specific rules and I never knew what to post where. Much easier to have one space.

[–]Be_My_Druidess 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Arghhh I was gutted to hear this, have been lurking on Ovarit for a little bit and was going to ask to join when I saw the news 😔 genuinely upset that such an important site where women can speak freely is closing 😔

[–]hellsbells76 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Just heard the news. Unbelievable. All that amazing content just down the drain. Ovarit was always the first place I directed people who were starting to question gender ideology and it peaked a lot of people. I will miss all my peeps. This really sucks ass.

[–]radically_done 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Gutted. I hadn't posted in a while but I was reading every day and it was so comforting to know so many women were in the same boat. There's no other place like Ovarit.

[–]RighteousIndignation 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I still hope someone can convince her to hand it over it would be a great starting block for an organisation like WDI or Sex Matters, even if she deletes all the users data so we have to make new accounts again, I'd be fine with that if everything was preserved.

[–]worried19 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm really hoping something will happen to change her mind.

I’m so sad about it :(

I go by a different name on ovarit, but I might start being more active here perhaps. I’m going to check out Clovenhooves too. I just really hope that we can archive a lot of the more important stuff from ovarit somewhere and re-gather!

Going to archive some of the mod posts because those were really inspiring, but I'll miss the HUGE threads of "how did you peak"? that were mostly just women realizing men were still degenerates, or that women are still subject to misogyny and female socialization even after transing out.

Why doesn't she just transfer the damn thing to someone who cares? I see an LLC was even created. This makes it all relatively simpler. The admin can be done done.

This was quite the community response. Seems very unfortunate. --some dude from the dead site saddit

is it related to UK new internet laws? anyway, I want to say that you will be missed. Although I am not a feminist I regularly visited that website for sources, and it was a beacon of light in the insanity of that world.

[–]worried19 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I don't think it's related to any UK laws, since the site was based in the USA. But this really is an awful loss of a major resource.

[–]GoodGoneGirl 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (13 children)

Clovenhooves has its own specific purpose, it’s not really an alternative to Ovarit. Several women joined that site specifically to get away from Ovarit lol. I’m sure it’s great for what it is, but it’s not for everyone (and that’s okay!). Women who want that kind of space deserve to have it and they’re lucky to have a very capable woman to run it for them. But Ovarit’s user base migrating there would just make both groups unhappy.

Since the period before the US election, there’s been a bit of a clash between those who think that Ovarit has become a ”right-wing shithole” and those who have grown tired of the negativity and snide remarks towards other users. I fall firmly in the second group, although I can see that Ovarit has drifted a bit further right than it used to be. But I truly think that nearly every woman there — from the very far left to the more right-wing, and everyone in between — had something positive to offer. The fact that Ovarit made room for all kinds of women is something I appreciate so, so much.

[–]ginger 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

That’s true; you make an excellent point, and I agree! I love the idea of Clovenhooves for what it is, since sometimes that vibes of ovarit haven’t always fit what I’m looking for so I’m definitely still planning to join clovenhooves too, but you’re right that Ovarit was such a really great space for allowing all kinds of women to post there, even if I didn’t always agree with some opinions. I hope that some of us can maybe figure out a way to coordinate the creation of some other alternative website for all of ovarit’s userbase.

Personally, I have been wanting to take more initiative to find others to collaborate with to help build a new majority-female GC/feminist website since I do have friends who are libfems, “TIRFs”, detransitioned women, TIFs, and even some conservative-leaning women who all could benefit a lot from a female-run website that doesn’t tolerate misogyny at least, since the commonality most of us share is that we keep getting censored or spoken over by a handful of toxic males in every community.

[–]GoodGoneGirl 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I hope you succeed with your plans! I’d love to see that. Maybe the woman running Clovenhooves has some advice about how to go about it? I wonder if she’s dealing with the same issues that Ovarit had (threats, funding etc). Hopefully her site is not as much of a target since it doesn’t have the same connection to Reddit as Ovarit did.

[–]ginger 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I’m in contact with her, yeah! :) She’s in the server I made actually! I think I invited you to it thru ovarit already! (I’m working on catching up with sending everyone else on ovarit invites over DM!)

I’m hoping that we all can discuss more and share advice within the server! Please DM me on Ovarit if the other channels in the server don’t show for you still! I tried to fix that issue just now!

[–]worried19 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I never could understand the "right-wing" complaints! Maybe I'm one of the "right-wingers" they were upset about, LOL. I'm more moderate, not as far left as many Ovarit users on some of the social issues.

[–]GoodGoneGirl 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Maybe I am too, I don’t know. There’s a feeling of betrayal I think from some radfems.. I actually hope that many of those who felt that way will choose to join us here. As freaking annoying as I’ve found the complaining and negativity at times I don’t want to lose their input completely.

[–]RighteousIndignation 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I'm so tired of the facism, everything you say that I don't like makes you "far right" as an old school lefty I'm really sick and tired of the modern militant left that has risen up in the last 5+ years, I get on way better with the right they are far more reasonable and respectful.

[–]GoodGoneGirl 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

To be fair both the political extremes are intolerant. It’s just that the actual far right types are not people who are likely to join feminist forums so we don’t get much exposure to them unless we seek it out. But there are plenty of obnoxious, woman-hating, far right males, and I’ll take a militant leftist woman over that any day, even if I might find her a bit annoying at times. I don’t know, I just think the rift is sad and unnecessary. Not sure how to fix it though.

[–]ginger 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Same, I’m not sure either, but I want to try to work on this.

I’d rather have all of us women united in a female-supportive space, regardless of our disagreeing views and concerns, rather than continue to have all these different women in every type of community silenced, due to males always taking over and making every space toxic for women. Even the TIFs get shut down, silenced, and harassed so much by TIMs, and it bothers me to see that happening. :( And male conservatives can be so toxic towards female conservatives, as are male liberals to female liberals, and so on.

[–]acanthous 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, what I'll miss most about Ovarit is having a place for women - all women - that centers women. I don't want to be siloed with other people who believe exactly the same things I do. I feel like it's difficult to be intellectually stimulated without encountering disagreement regularly. However, the rest of the world is mostly male-centered so I really appreciated a place that was a refreshing change from that. What I'll miss most is o/WomensLiberation, even though I didn't tend to post there. I'm planning to check out Cloven Hooves, for that reason... but from what I've heard of it I suspect I won't be welcome there (my feminism tends to be practical rather than idealist and flexible rather than militant... I generally dislike adhering to any particular ideology because I feel that human society and problems are too complex to be explained by or solved by the One True Solution™).

[–]crodishr/gc and Ovarit refugee 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

those who think that Ovarit has become a ”right-wing shithole”

I'm still so fucking lost on this discourse, tbh. I guess I'm lucky to not have encountered such sentiments or remarks on the posts I viewed, idk

[–]kwallio 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I never saw the right wing views. I saw that on gender cynical and was like wtf. How is ovarit right wing. But anyway. I was spacykate on ovarit.

[–]ginger 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I’ve seen some of those types of comments that others were probably referring to, but a lot of the worst ones did end up eventually deleted by mods! i think there were some unnecessarily vitriolic comments directly to some women that came off in bad taste to certain demographics — women of color, detrans/desisted women, former TRAs, GC-leaning libfems who hadn’t peaked fully yet, 4B women, childfree/anti-natalists, lesbians, bi women, gender-nonconforming women, etc, from the complaints I’ve heard. But overall, I do feel like Ovarit was really great and worth participating in, and the admins/mods there were really on top of things. I wish I’d done more to try to help the GC/feminist women who were gravitating away from ovarit to feel more welcome there, and to help with recruiting.

[–]GoodGoneGirl 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

It had gotten a lot better lately I think, though it hasn’t been more than a couple of days since I last saw that sentiment. I’m guessing you weren’t around so much the time leading up to the US election? Things were tense for a while.

[–]Gritobo 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

This isn't good.

There is hope though. Remember that the removal of /r/GenderCritical looked like the end at first and yet there are still online gender critical spaces.

[–]worried19 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Definitely important to keep in mind. Gender critical voices can't be silenced.

Also it sucks that Ovarit is closing so soon after you joined. I hope you had fun while it lasted.

[–]crodishr/gc and Ovarit refugee 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

even if they were (silenced), males will continue to be male in every cell of their body, and so will women who think saying they aren't women will magically make them so

you can silence the speakers but you can't silence your own biology and self-doubt. These fuckers are permanently worried about being clocked, if they're too much or not enough stereotype of whatever they're trying to emulate, and have dysphoria over the stupidest things no one gives two shits about, like if their pee sounds "female enough", or if their gait isn't masc enough. their heart attack isn't going to give a shit about gender, neither will covid, or levels of whatever delicate bullshit the body runs on that are specifically sexually dimorphic. transwomen will continue to be at risk for prostate cancer, and testosterone will continue to make TIFs die early.

the world is so dumb

[–]Gritobo 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I did mostly have fun! :)

That said, I do want to go out with one last bang so to speak. I still need to send some people in my workplace an email about how asking for pronouns is a form of discrimination against those who deviate "too much" from sexist stereotypes. Hopefully I can send out that email and get promising results in time to share before Ovarit is shut down.

Henlo from the other side. Such a shame it has to be this way.

Hey, welcome! Sorry it's under these circumstances.

Just made an account here and on spinster after seeing the announcement :( Female spaces are so important

Fuck. I'm pissed off. I'm not angry at the owner, but I'm just so upset to lose all our content. The TRAs on Reddit must be gloating.

[–]InattentiveGiraffe 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Let them have their little dance of joy. The site may be gone, but we are still here, and we're still strong 🤘

I created a community here: https://hilariouschaos.com/c/gendercritical. I've reposted a few things from ovarit there. It'd be great if anyone else wants to post there, or take over being a mod.

The Fediverse (which that is a part of) tends to be very anti-GC, but the admin of hilariouschaos.com doesn't seem to be that sort. I've seen that the admin has ignored a few reports marked as transphobia. I can't actually vouch for them, though.

If you want to piss off the TRAs, bringing GC views to the Fediverse would be the best way. It's harder to claim that "this never happens" with a straight face when you're confronted with reduxx's reporting that it very much does happen, frequently. hilariouschaos.com seems like a good corner of the Fediverse (other than allowing for right-wing communities [like saidit does too, though]), but if not there, somewhere in the Fediverse is a good place.

Thanks for sharing about this! :) I plan to check out this community and make an account there soon this week to join

Maybe C&P posts here? I'm not sure how the thread titles work here but maybe something like "The Ovarit Chronicles: ThisNeverHappens" and the recopy posts from that particular Ovarit forum.

https://saidit.net/s/Ovarit/

I created Ovarit here (to prevent any bad actors using it), feel free to archive there.

The first post there appears troll-ish already, from a man in bad faith. sigh
appreciate the thought

edit: annnnnnd it's a pornsick conservative scrote

maybe lock posts on there if you're a mod, and do invite only, same way as before? idk

Ugh 😭 people like that are why I’m not wanting to stick around on saidit for long. Rebuilding a GC/radfem space here without also having other more prominent online radfem spaces for us, could backfire in misrepresenting our thoughts and getting us lumped in with the conservatives we don’t have anything in common with, from the general public’s perspective. It would make it harder for others to peak too

Ugh 😭 people like that are why I’m not wanting to stick around on saidit for long.

This is why its so risky for women to gather on platforms like Reddit, Discord, Saidit, Xwitter, etc that are dominated by scrotes. And its why losing Ovarit is so devastating

We are going to need moderation here for sure. I see we have a team of mods, but not sure how many are currently active.

u/WrongToy, do we need more moderators?

[–]WrongToy[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Eventually yeah. Sound situation and I were discussing this just now.

[–]worried19 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Thanks for inviting me to become a mod. I assume it was you! I've never been a mod before, but I'm definitely willing to help out.

[–]WrongToy[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

My main concern was your activity in the old gc qt debate sub. I mean, please don’t invite them here. It’s not the purpose of this sub.

My secondary concern is that I’m allowing pro Palestine feminist content here if anyone wants to post it. Same with Israeli content.

Both these were not evidenced in your ovarit behavior and if that continues we are all good. Welcome aboard.

[–]worried19 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Thanks, and yeah, I absolutely realize this isn't a debate sub. I'd love to get the old debate sub going again, but I understand no one wants TRAs trying to debate over here. That's cool with me.

I don't have any knowledge at all on the whole Israel/Palestine conflict, so I will leave that to others.

[–]worried19 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking of doing. Not everything, but some of the more important posts. I had stuff saved especially regarding child medicalization that I feel should be archived.

[–]Pennygadget 21 insightful - 1 fun21 insightful - 0 fun22 insightful - 1 fun -  (29 children)

The loss of the archive really sucks. A lot of good information was gathered there.

It would be lovely if someone trustworthy could convince girl_undone to hand over Ovarit. But I understand her paranoia about protecting the privacy of users (especially the ones who donated money to the site)

I'm sure the scrotes and handmaidens are thrilled. They love it when women lose their spaces

[–]WrongToy[S] 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

My email there like with all my socials is a throwaway. I bet that’s true of other users too. The donation db would be the only one with personal info.

[–]acanthous 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Eh, I think I used my real email on Ovarit, because fuck it. But I have this saidit account associated with my crap email though because there's so much racism on Saidit that I'd feel awkward about having my real name associated with the site even though I'm not participating in those other subs. (I am not using the same username as on Ovarit, btw.)

[–]YoMamma 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Feel free to correct the racists. Write anything you wish.

[–]acanthous 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

There's no way I'd waste my time arguing with those users. Half of them are probably teenage boys who get a thrill out of riling people up and saying "forbidden" things. Reacting to them at all only encourages them.

[–]Pennygadget 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah. There is nothing to be gained from arguing with edge-lords
