Once a month I give the dog and cats flea medication. It's my period. Only occasionally is there blood involved(the cats don't enjoy the process, at all).

But seriously, this whole idea of "inclusivity" whether it's of words or groups - inclusivity is not a virtue. The only time it should apply, virtuously, is when talking about legal protections. In all other contexts something has value due to its "exclusivity." Sports excludes bad athletes and cheats. Social groups exclude anyone who isn't a member of that group or an enjoyer of the hobby. Relationships exclude everyone else on the planet. The exclusion gives these things value and meaning.

Lol. Thinking about it, I realize this was ambiguous and could be read several ways. I was trying to imply that the blood was mine, cause the cats would scratch me.

I think if we expand the definition of what any word means, it loses utility to point accurately that which it points to. If we expand the meaning of period to anything monthly, bill paying becomes period. It's like the war on women starts with language maybe.

If we expand the meaning of a word the word no longer defines the object or trait it refers to and becomes nothing but a noise to make.

I never understand how they expect this to work. They redefine the word in English, sure, but do they then expect every other language to also redefine their equivalent word? A lot of languages have strict regulatory boards that dictate the official meanings of words. Do they just want to enforce English definitions into other languages?

Can we call it something like linguistic colonialism and call them racists?

It also makes translation a hell of a lot harder because you'll no longer have words to directly translate to. Which means either a translation that's needlessly wordy or a translation that's not accurate. Translation can be incredibly important, especially in regards to medical things like periods.

The Star Trek avatar disappoints but no longer surprises.

Funny how you say that; i caught a permanent ban from the Star Trek subreddit b/c I dared to point out how the woke media would have lost their shit had a certain aspect of the story not happened. Only later did I find out in other Trek subs that a ban from that mod crew is pretty common.

I'm not surprised. I've noticed that r/startrek seems pretty 'woke'. I've seen threads trying to claim that Worf and Geordi's characters were victims of racism. No one bashes Discovery but no one really seems to be a fan, either.

Curious what was this 'certain aspect'?

Worf and Geordi's characters were victims of racism

Wait what? I mean some of Worf's treatment in the series was because he was a Klingon, are they saying it was because Worf was played by Michael Dorn (a black man)? My mind is kind of boggling. What was wrong with the way Geordi was treated? Its been a while since I saw the series but I don't remember any racism.

There wasn't any. The OP in the thread I saw (it was a few months ago on r/startrek) was claiming that it was racist that Geordi's character was awkward with women and couldn't get a girlfriend. There seems to be a trend of revisiting old TV shows and movies with a 'social justice warrior' lens. After all, if our society is institutionally racist now, it had to have been back then, too, for the Critical Race Theory narrative to make sense.

If I recall correctly the number of characters on all the star trek shows that I saw that got laid at all is in the single digits.

As far as I know O'brien was the only member of engineering to get any action. I didn't watch Voyager or any later shows tho, so I'm going off of TOS, TNG, and DS9.

And they need to understand the definition of the word "gender."
