Other than the misuse of money that was intended to be used for more videos, I always had issues with her criticisms. The most offensive to me was saying characters like Samus are just “men with tits.” Nothing will ever please these types.

I don’t think video games, like any other media, are above critique but so much of the “feminist” critique has been hot garbage. And I actually have been gaming since I could hold a controller.

And yeah, zero surprise from me that she’s all aboard the trans train.

    “men with tits.”

Uggggh. When they actually tried to shove Samus into a more feminine box, it was cringy and stupid. Even as a child who didn't particularly like Metroid, I thought it was awesome that this badass space soldier was a woman. She didn't have to shove her woman-ness into it, the good part about it was that it didn't matter, story-wise. She could have been a man, but she wasn't because the creators said a woman could be a hero, too. That's fucking awesome.

I too have been gaming since my earliest memories. My absolute favorite childhood RPG gave you the choice of being male or female. This was back in the VERY early 90s, when games had 8 bits and every pixel was counting against memory. And yet, it wasn't even the first game to do that. I can think of many others at the time, or a few years later, and earlier, that had male and female leads/notable characters, or just female heroines. Yes, games are targeted primarily to men, but individual games are better targets of criticism rather than the entire industry.

The fake feminists who push this crap are either trading on sexism outrage, or are just obsessed with sexist stereotypes themselves. So of course they love the trans.

I assume you’re talking about Other M, which was really awful. In the original Metroid, they don’t even specify her sex until the very end of the game when she takes her helmet off and reveals she’s a woman. I’m a huge fan of the Prime games, myself.

Yup many RPGs definitely let you be what you want. I feel a lot of lacking representation in early gaming was largely due to tech limitations. You couldn’t really have plots more complex than “save the girl” or “kill the bad guys.” Of course it’s very different now and characters and stories have gotten more complex, and I feel really cringey stuff is in the minority now.

I think Sarkeesian and her ilk are largely addicted to outrage in general. I think it’s a core component of the libfem mindset.

Completely agree, with all this. I just was never a big fan of platform games. Too much button-mashing perfection that I didn't have the patience for. RPGs had more interesting stories, characters, and involved more strategy and planning that I was better at. But I loved watching my brother play platform games, especially Metroid. It was cool just knowing that she was a woman, and yeah, you only knew that originally at the end of the game.

I think it’s a core component of the libfem mindset.

Yep. The problem is that they have outrage, but no logical or ethical foundation for it. I've had arguments with libfems where they contradict themselves within the same paragraph. You call it out, and they just make up some other piece of nonsense. Most of them don't argue at all anyway, they speak in memes and soundbite phrases they can't explain.

Yes, she manufactured false controversy in order to cash in on her series of shitty videos, at a time when female representation in video games is incredible and diverse. Even in the era of older, classic game consoles, she deliberately ignored lots of popular series with good representation in order to push the idea that video games were inherently sexist (it's not to say they weren't male-oriented, but Anita misrepresents the scope of the problem because she can cash in on it).

I remember she never even played the games she bought. She used gameplay taken from random yt channels in her videos.

Her only skill was her ability to produce slick marketing and get people to believe she was an expert in anything when really, she just wanted to be paid to churn out frankly inane videos (just look at all the refutations, this wasn't an indepth University level analysis or anything, it was the sort of thing you'd expect from a high schooler, certainly not worth paying for).
