It is definitely being treated as an identity now. People get so angry and scream about gatekeeping if you try to say lesbians are exclusively same-sex attracted female humans.

That's why we have the "I like to sleep with men, but I'm totally a lesbian because I FEEL like a lesbian" women that perpetuate the myth that lesbians can be turned straight/bi. And of course the TIMs who claim to be lesbians despite being heterosexual males.

Apparently having a real definition for what a lesbian is is gatekeeping, but without a definition it means nothing.

Eugh this is so true and it's why whenever I see a self-proclaimed Gay or Lesbian mention how they like to sleep with the opposite sex, I quickly shut that down and bluntly say they aren't Gay/Lesbian but Bisexual. It really sets a BAD precedent to imply that sexuality can be changed and us Gays and Lesbans as well as Heterosexuals know that is not true. I hate to place the blame on a particular group but it can't be denied that it's coming from Bisexual people.

I notice none of them claim to be a trans heterosexual, it would make sense if they're homo and they start identifying as the opposite gender, they should be thinking they're hetero and not homo. It's all about how much they can claim to win the top snowflake awards.

I've seen a selective school student (selective highschools in Australia are schools that only allow students with strong academic ability to be enrolled, they're not the same as public schools and private schools) who went from calling herself a lesbian and dating her girlfriend for a few years, to then dating a guy and calling herself a gay boy and tagging her Tumblr feminine pictures of her in typical feminine styles as "gay boy". I wonder if her parent issues led to her being crazy, but considering how much she broadcasts her life, it looks more like Tumblr got to her and maybe some level of academic elitism and self-percieved superiority in understanding social issues (she went off at me for asking what "POC" means).

Sounds like it could be a combination of both to be honest.

It could be, I remember she said her parents gave birth to a boy so he can have a son, there's a noticeable age difference between both her and her brother. I would have begun suspecting a bit more that she might be trying to get her dad's assets (as a joke), but she started claiming a few years after she said that in a post. I'm not surprised if what really happened that aside from shitty parents, she has felt oppressed in her suburb (although very unlikely, she lives in an area where our ethnicity is more concentrated and they're in a higher income bracket), she feels the unfair treatment from one of the important figures who she has no choice but to accept in her life (children, do not have the autonomy to remove people from their lives), because said figure wants a son, she goes to Tumblr and see all of these other injustices (or has noticed already and thought to go to Tumblr because art and social justice is her passion) which furthers her development and passion in fighting oerceieved social justices and with the whole academic achievements, some level of elitist attitudes (if the social justice thing hasn't given her a sense if superiority yet). I really don't know anything about her, I'm just basing off human psychology and looking at her life and coming up with a theory of what may have happened. Also she probably had no one important enough to discuss these thoughts with, which led to unhampered beliefs developing into beliefs which less based off logic and more based off emotion. Compare to me, I wanted to go vegetarian, and I expressed that, but I was drawn back by my older brother (he's a narcissistic, selfish asshole, but I'm not going to lie, he had some beneficial impact), by telling me how homo sapiens evolved and teased me a little with the taste of meat, its hard to resist rustic chinese cooking.

I think your assessment is totally fine though. Being able to do a little analysis even if it falls into more armchair psychology territory can be a beneficial thing to have to help better understand someone.

I don't have anything until I can talk to them, and have very little professional training (I have what has been largely helpful, just knowing how to reflect and understand motivation). It's still a nice exercise to do to remember they're still people.

On a side note, I think last time I checked, she said she wanted to be a psychologist and major in gender studies, it's been a few years, hopefully she has given up on that goal or the job market is that tight and she's only able to do blue collar work.

I fucking hate this. I don't "identify" as a gay man, I AM A GAY MAN. And it's the same for Lesbians, they don't identify as lesbians, they are lesbians. I started seeing this in recent years and it aggravates me to no end. On the other hand though, I've also noticed the trend of how people when describing homosexual attraction are now calling it "Queer". Are you fucking serious? Why can't they just call it what it is? Gay or Lesbian? Why "Queer"?

Point is, I feel you OP, this is some bullshit lol.

It's like they have hijacked the movement that was supposed to be for us.

They really did. Now when you hear about "Pride", instead of sexuality, it's about "identity".

I fucking hate this dictatorship so much.

At least I live in Greece where it's not as common yet.

But there's the downside of homophobia too.

I was watching a YouTube channel where a gay man described himself as 'identifying as gay'. I was disappointed, and realized that he was simply too Woke to take seriously, and stopped watching.

Identity has become a toxic mimic of identity. I am who I am. My name is my name, and my various physical characteristics are what they are. Each of those are used by others to identify me. To call it "my identity" though reduces me to those identifying characteristics. To flip it around and say "my identity" is something other than my physical characteristics and my name and, going further out on the limb of imposition, to expect others to then refer to me according to this upside version of identity is asking them to stop using their own senses and reasoning skills to see me as they see me. It seems to me to be similar to identifying as the things you like to by-- to go from "I drive a Mercedes" to "I am a Mercedes driver".

No one's sense of their own identity helps anyone in any way at all, not even themselves. it only limits them and distracts others.

I agree abut Jenna Marbles. I thought she was pretty funny, but I think she has great potential in comedic acting or just acting. I thought she absolutely killed it in the "Epic Rap Battle" as "Eve". Untalented people shutting down talented people is nothing new, and talented people being so insecure about it and being cowed by these sad pathetic untalented jealous clowns is also nothing new. Comedy and art is supposed to tweak noses and bother some people, it is also supposed to be just bad and cringy as people who are young and still figuring out how to do it. She, and we, lost a lot when she blinked when the woke mob of losers was staring her down.

Strongly agree. I fucking hate this whole thing.
