LOL my expectations were low and this did not disappoint.

It reads like a list of poorly conceived demands. It's not even internally consistent.

Ask people their pronouns, but be careful not to 'out' them by asking. Advocate for trans people, but don't speak over them. Treat them like a mentally defective child that needs constant hand-holding, but also respect that they're just normal human beings.

Unsurprisingly, most of it revolves around a list of 'don'ts'. Don't question that trans women are women. Don't ask trans people questions. Don't question prostitution. Don't talk to TERFs because you have nothing to learn from them. #54 is particularly ominous.

Then on to the activism. Control your language and that of everyone around you. Validate trans people constantly. Tell them how great they look. Give them money (this seems to come up frequently). Recognize that their needs are more important than yours.

Seriously, if I knew nothing about trans people, this would turn me off completely. So much 'anti-cis' narrative and outright dismissal of the rights of anyone who isn't trans identified. Outright telling the reader to 'fuck off'. Way to build alliances. Oh wait, it's not about 'building bridges' - it's about social and political domination.

Talk about those demands not being consistent.

First they claim that trans people don't need to be saved and then they claim to need protection.

Thanks for the laugh.

"Do not fetishise trans folk." ...pretending a significant section of society fetishizes trans people is hilariously tone deaf.

This entire article is amazingly spoiled and upper middle class.

I would, however, pay to see the gory fallout if these coddled kids ever have the guts to make the same demands in a bad neighbourhood at 2AM to our local gang as they loiter in the parking lot screaming threats at everyone they see. Will their pronouns still matter when their next door neighbours openly deal crack and are threatening to kick their doors in?

They truly do not seem to have any real problems.

Does running out of pretend problems qualify as a problem?

[–]linda_senora[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I am sure to them, it does qualify as a real problem.

Luckily for them, most people don't really see them as real women/ real men, so they will still have plenty of opportunities to kvetch.

Look at that. We've helped them inadvertently. There's my good deed for the day.

  1. Do not enter queer or trans safe spaces without a queer person asking you to be there or without making sure that allies are welcome.

Trans and "qu**rs" are allowed to have their restricted space but gatekeeping bathrooms and lockerooms is discriminatory and harmful. There's a double standard there.

  1. “Queer” is not a theme. Do not have a “queer” house party and let boys who still use the word “faggot” wear your heels and dresses because it’s fun.

says the one who drops the q-slur a dozen time in the article.

I have no desire to make the world a better place for people who are putting all women and girls at risk .

Trans men exist! We are often overlooked or forgotten, so try to remind yourself that we are out here and can find the male cis world hard to navigate.

Except when it comes to prison. Please don't put them in real men's prisons.

Or sports. They generally want to stay on women's teams. I don't imagine a lot of pre-op transman are stripping off in changing rooms, either.

That point made me laugh. Trans men are overlooked or forgotten by transactivism.

I would pay money to see that scenario play out.

I am tired of cis people talking about trans health. Ask us to talk, educate, share our stories, and pay us. This way you don’t get the credit for the lives we live.

And yet we are supposed to be okay with TiMs representing us and talking about menstruation and other female health issues.

Do not tell us we “are playing the victim,” WE ARE THE FUCKING VICTIM.

Yuck.

Don’t question someone’s religious beliefs because they are trans and you think they go against what it says in a holy book. This isn’t your business, OK?

But it is their business to question other people when they feel our words and actions are not sufficiently in line with their vision of civil rights...

I stopped reading at #4

  1. Try to start removing binary language from your everyday conversations. If we all make conscious efforts to steer away from gendering everything, this will have a knock-on effect that stops our learnt obsession of having to divide everything into binaries.

That's such an unreasonable demand.

[–]Femaleisnthateful 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm not even sure what that means. English isn't a particularly gendered language. Do they mean to stop referring to people as male and female? I'm noticing a new trend towards telling people to refer to people as 'they' unless they 'gender' themselves. They're asking people to 'misgender' 99.9% of the population in order to virtue signal an ideology, and also we're told that 'misgendering' is literal violence. Make it makes sense.

2014 called, it wants its "X ways to make the world better for Y people" article format back.

I piťy everyone who has to work with one of these narcissists, or is related to one of them. But here's what they don't seem to get: there is absolutely no good reason to actively seek out the company of someone who makes these kinds of demands of you. Oh, so you're going to make me jump through 100 hoops before you grace me with your company, and part of the deal is that you're going to keep me on edge the entire time? Why on earth would I sign up for that?

"disrupt the cis world" hahahaahahaha no.

[–]xxo1111 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If you are called out for being offensive, do not argue. This is not a debate. Apologise. Take a moment to reflect. If necessary, leave or give the space over to those you have offended or upset.

...who defined what is and isn't offensive? One of the first characteristics of a cult is not allowing you to call them out, otherwise you will be seen as sinful or immoral in some way.

  1. If trans folk do have to explain something to you that may be uncomfortable, triggering, or upsetting for us, buy us a bunch of flowers, take us for dinner, drop something into our PayPal. No labor should be free.

HAHHAHAHAAAA!

Holy bricks, what a nerve.

Basically just bow down and roll over at all times.

And trans men are overlooked?

GEE I WONDER WHY?

Well...two of the rules weren't that bad:

  1. Recognise the strength and power of your voice.

  2. Now use it.
