Once you see that women's bodies are increasingly being viewed as marketplaces you can't unsee it...

By the same token though, wouldn't you want to be able to do this if you so desired? i.e. wouldn't it be more egregious if the government created legislation banning surrogacy-for-pay?

It does seem like a double-edged sword, but in my (male) opinion, this seems like a separate issue from explicit sex work.

Tbh I'm still on the fence about surrogacy, so I went around and read all kind of stuff about it. I quite agree that if a woman wants to do it (free of coercion) she's free to do what she wants, but apparently it has its own set of problems... so I'm not sure about my stance on this yet.

This might be insightful: https://nordicmodelnow.org/2020/01/29/i-was-an-altruistic-surrogate-and-am-now-against-all-surrogacy/

As I understand it ( and this is my position too) opposition to surrogacy kind of has the same reasoning behind it as opposition to prostitution, that is, that there will be some women who do it willingly (or claim to do it willingly) but the majority of women are doing it because they have no other options.

So rather than force desperate women into surrogacy or prostitution, governments and societies should make it so that every woman can have a living wage.

Prostitution is hard enough on a woman's body, but carrying a baby to term is on a different level. The woman is building the baby with her own materials, often at considerable risk to her own health, and it all ends in an explosion of pretty much pure hell. I'm sure someone will chime in here to say how much they loved giving birth, but many if not most women don't relish the birthing part of having a child.
