Although advocates and inmates say the transfers have been received well, several claim that misinformation spread by prison staffers is stirring up transphobia and that more must be done to educate inmates.

And the poor women are being told they need to be educated out of their fears.

No they shouldn't. These are men, they offend like men , they have superior strength like men. They'll rape like men.

I wonder just how bad it will have to get before the staff crack. It's going to make their lives way harder too. Women's prisons are not set up to cope with male violence

When they said "transfer was received well" and meant only well for transgenders, but women weren't even asked.

Like in that article about 200 girls dropping sports and coming at meeting against twaw in sports - because boy comes there, says he is tw and showers with them. Interview there was taken only from boy and his mother, but never from girls or their psrents.

Hey, do you have a link for this?

It was later in this this situation:

https://www.rawstory.com/2015/08/simple-bigotry-missouri-high-schoolers-walk-out-because-trans-student-wants-to-use-girls-bathroom/

Most news articles stood on a boy's defense and interviewed only him.

Some girls stopped doing sports afterwards, I don't know if all. It was 6 years ago.

Great resource, thanks

Americans, we need to be on this, in every state that allows this or will allow this - the Democrats in Maine are trying to push through a similar bill.

These women are helpless and are our responsibility because we pay the taxes to keep them in jail. We don't pay taxes to enable them to be raped, impregnated, infected with HIV, do we?

It's worrying to hear that the women's concerns have already been dismissed as misinformation and transphobia. This does not bode well for the commitment of the prison system to ensure the safety of the women in the system or to take accurate records of reports of negative events that occur after transwomen are moved into women's prisons. Is there any way for an independent watchdog to whom women prisoners can report their experiences? I feel so sad for these poor women who are trapped in a system where the very people who disregard their safety and dignity also have complete control over the information-collecting systems that record whether their safety and dignity have been kept intact.

There's a whole group of activists working across borders trying to stop men in women's prisons. One used to pop in here occasionally. I will find their twitter accounts and post them.

The situation in Canada is really heating up, with protests outside women's prisons. We need that in the US, NOW.

I can't stop laughing at "Jasmine" Jones posing like a model for an article about prisoners. This is a serious issue, and he is striking a pose like a RuPaul's Drag Race contestant.

This reads like a The Onion article, except it's actually real... Opening the article with the AGP not being validated by other inmates for getting off on wearing women's under garments is beyond ridiculous.... 🤢

I think that more and more people will Peak Trans as the media covering this slips further and further into the realm of the absurd.

Here's a great OVARIT thread on this with the text of the article if you can't access it.

According to Ovarit posters, some of the TiMs mentioned in the article are in for violent crime (first degree murder, armed robbery & kidnapping), needless to say, the article doesn't mention that - these are just sweet, little, castrated men who just wanna pee, whoops, I mean, just want to humiliate and/or sexually assault women guards & prisoners.

I reckon the staff will be the reason this collapses.

They've set up a situation where male sex offenders are demanding female officers strip search them, and they will end up alone with them at some point. Staff safety will be compromised, the female staff will start complaining or resigning. Or both. One will get attacked in such a severe way the others will freak.

I also don't think male prison guards have any bloody business being in a women's prison. About a third are sex offenders of some kind, and straight guys are horribly easy to manipulate with a pair of tits.

Other US states - Illinois for instance, have already had scandals surrounding men in women's prisons, and AFAIK, still intend to keep them there. Of course, Illinois's governor is J.B. Pritzker, the Pritzkers are one of the families pushing gender ideology in the US.

People don't realize how crazy the politicians, liberal and conservative, are in California. I have no faith that the California Democratic party will see the errors of its rape-enabling ways unless there is a MASSIVE public outcry.

Even if you're not in California, call Governor Gavin Newsom's office and protest SB132.

Newsom is on the hot seat with a recall effort, and even though he's signed the bill, he needs to know that this atrocious bill lost him popularity too.

Call the California Democratic party too - the party of #MeToo has become the party of #StateSanctionedRape.

Send me a message if you want to take more action. We need to help these women.

California is a bit different from other states, in that their prison system has been such a disaster that they are regularly forced into making changes because they are under federal court supervision. So at least the potential exists to get issues in front of a judge who can say "yeah, I don't care what your state law says."

California also has just recently gone through a series of lawsuits related to the prisons not keeping track of inmate complaints properly. They are supposed to have upgraded the information-collection systems to make sure that inmate issues aren't "misfiled" because they're inconvenient, etc.

Also, a previous set of changes to California law called SADEA - Sexual Abuse in Detention Elimination Act - requires among other things "(2)(d) To ensure that data collection concerning sexual abuse across all institutions is accurate and accessible to the public.", and creates the "Office of the Sexual Abuse in Detention Elimination Ombudsperson" in order to track that. SADEA also mandates that the California corrections department (CDCR) have guidelines already in place for outside organizations to offer resources to inmates about how to use the reporting system and other sexual assault related matters.

California has extra tools and they should be put to use. It's kind of shitty that the extra work falls on the victims but everything about prisons is shitty. Hopefully the people protesting this already know this information - but if not, maybe it will be helpful.
