I'm not sure I buy that the creation/invention of "the transgender child" is entirely the fault of the US. People & the medical establishment in other countries - the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, the UK - have played a major part too.

Dutch clinicians came up with the idea of using puberty blockers on kids with "gender dysphoria" - US clinicians merely imported it. Susie Green of the UK org Mermaids transed her child Jackie several years before the parents of Jazz Jennings did the same to him in the US.

Edit to add: I just checked the dates. Susie Green took her son Jackie to Thailand to be castrated & get a fauxgina surgically constructed on his 16th birthday in 2009. Jackie was born in 1993, so was transed in the 1990s or early 2000s. Susie made a very big splash in the press bragging that her son was the youngest person in the world ever to go through genital surgery to cement a trans identity.

Jackie Green is now 28. Jazz Jennings is 20, born in 2000. Jazz had his genital surgeries in 2018, nine years after Jackie Green had his.

I think Susie Green & Mermaids of the UK have done as much to create the concept of the trans child as anyone else.

I think that the tendency to blame America (especially California and the entertainment industry) for many cultural horrors is often spot on, but with this one, like you, I'm not sure America is entirely to blame.

"From child size prosthetic penises to fit into underwear, to the multi-million-dollar franchise spawned by hit-reality tv shows like I am Jazz, the transgender child industry has outstripped policy"

I miss those days when life was simpler and there were tomboys and tomgirls.
