Academic Facebook group blows up over trans issues

I'm a member of the academic Facebook group 'Ask for PDFs from People with Institutional Access.' The group is exactly what you'd expect: You ask for digital articles or books from people with specific university/ college access. It's an international group with more than 90.000 members.

In the last few days, though, almost all the posts have been about trans issues. Trans people and allies accuse others of being insensitive, violent, what have you, and create post after post about how horrible the group is, or how horrible this one person is. A woman was completely dragged for saying to a trans person that this person can't make anyone want to have sex with them. If anyone expresses bewilderment or are critical of all these posts, they are immediately labelled transphobic and kicked out of the group.

Here's what gets me: This group is not supposed to be political or a place for discussions at all. It's not supposed to be a 'safe space' for anyone. It's meant to be a completely neutral group where people ask if anyone else has access to an article or book that they themselves can't find. This shouldn't be so hard. Yet now there are actual posts that say things like "Trans people, remember to drink water today, this shit is hard." Has academia gone completely mental?

The trans cult seems to be about the destruction of culture and science even more so than it is the destruction of the human body. These people are evil.

They are INCREDIBLY self involved. In a group like that there's honestly no need for anyone to know the gender identity of anyone else, but of course all they do is research and discuss themselves all day.

For the past ten years at least, yes. It's all identity politics and tearing down the past. Even the formerly hard sciences are full of this.

Wow, that group sounds like a totally awesome resource! I can think of many instances in my career that would have been useful.

Shame on those Genderists chasing people from such a page! Clearly, the agenda includes dismantling sciences, information, and inquiry. This is a tragedy for mankind!

The sad thing is that is not new, if anything we're just in the end stages. All dissenting opinions get pushed aside. These are hierarchical institutions in that you do not advance without the blessing of someone higher up, and the gate-keeping involved is not simply about objectively assessing competence and never has. We know this from how women have historically been shut out of things for so very long, and how so many ideas like continental drift (which became plate tectonics) was laughed at for a long time, and how Alton Harp would get shut out of telescope time because his ideas about red-shift (and star formation to be fair) were not everyone else's. The data he collected was just as good and useful as anyone else's but the anomalies he found are still jut ignored.

Academia is big business, from the marketing done by admissions departments, to the begging and for funding from industry and even alumni. None of that money comes without stipulations. It is not surprising that a system can be 'gamed', and those that are good at it will game a system be it facebook, academia, or the abomination that would result from the mating of he two.

The purpose of the trans cult, which if those running it have their way can not last beyond a single generation, is to sort out who will accept lies to get along and who will not. Those who do not accept the lies are of no use to those with all the funds.

I'm glad I went to Uni before all this bullshit got really bad. I feel for what my kids are going to have to deal with, though.
