I've never understood the appeal of Drag Queen Story Hour, except as a means of normalizing fetishism. The description in the article about 'gender-fluidity' and encouraging kids to express themselves sounds all well and good, but in practice it always seems to involve men dressing up as some ridiculous caricature of women and expecting kids to recognize them as women on the basis of their costume. Anything but progressive.

For adults, the aim is normalizing (male) fetishism. But for young children, the aim is confusing them and making sure they never establish sex-based perceptions & boundaries in the first place.

The overarching aim is to teach children that anyone who perceives sex differences - and notices that a bloke in a wig, dress & breast forms is not the same as the girls & women they know - is a hateful bigot.

Many of the Drag Queen Story Hours were horrible, with sexually suggestive outfits and actions.

Plus, there was at least one Drag Queen who was found to be a convicted child sex offender. There were more IIRC.

Drag Queen culture is incredibly sexist, misogynistic, and fetishy. It gives serious autogynephilic vibes even when the drag queens technically are not AGP.

I just can't imagine why librarians signed on and why parents brought toddlers to this. Stuff of nightmares.

Very, very fucked up.

Ostensibly woke parents lending prostituting their children to pedophiles for "sexual relief", that's what this is about.

I think I would be completely creeped out by a drag queen as a kid. I'm still surprised it was ever a thing. The pedo thing has been building for a while, there was at least one drag queen that was supposed to have flashed the kids during her reading, and another one was found out after the fact to be a sex offender. Calls for the drag queens to have background checks before interacting with children were met with "transphobia!" and so nothing happened. What I found bizarre about the whole thing was that the sex offense having drag queen was excused as the police and courts are bigoted. Like trans persons have sex offender status should just be ignored because its proof of their oppression, not anythig else. It was so weird.

Snopes is saying that there may be a mix-up about what organization he was involved with. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/drag-queen-story-hour/
