here is the original Interview the quote was taken from: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/theatre/what-to-see/ralph-fiennes-back-theatre-will-emotional/

“I can’t understand the vitriol directed at her,” the actor told The Telegraph in an interview published Wednesday. “I can understand the heat of an argument, but I find this age of accusation and the need to condemn irrational. I find the level of hatred that people express about views that differ from theirs, and the violence of language towards others, disturbing.”

I've always loved Ralph Fiennes. What a man!

ETA: here is another article commenting on it in the daily mail: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9372601/Harry-Potter-star-Ralph-Fiennes-backs-JK-Rowling-transgender-row.html#reader-comments The comments are delightful. Seems a bit like TRAs have overstepped the mark for long enough.

Good for Ralph!

I think this is significant coz Ralph is - or used to be - a method actor, meaning one who stays in the current role she or he is playing even after hours when offstage or off set.

In 1995 when Fiennes was playing Hamlet at the Belasco Theater in NYC, I happened to hitch a ride on a private plane out of Teterboro in which I ended up in a seat directly facing him and the two of us sharing a table. As I settled in my seat, I held out my hand for a shake saying, "Hello, I am Mark Twainiac." Ralph recoiled and waved my hand away as if he were insulted and horrified whilst he shouted, "I am Hamlet!" The whole flight he was in character as the legendary Danish prince. His companion, the woman who was playing his mother in the play and Ralph was rumored to be sleeping with, thankfully behaved as if she thought Ralph was taking things a bit too far. She looked a bit sheepish and embarrassed.

True story. And one I've gotten a lot of mileage out of over the years. Whereas my equally true - and weird - story about my lunch/afternoon with Foucault usually yields head scratching and a befuddled, "Who is Foucault?" LOL

This will affirm, for some, that he is "literally" Voldemort.
