Diana dove right in and was a workhorse, who had some remarkable achievements, such as changing the public's attitude towards people with AIDs. She saved lives and exuded glamor, humor and charm while doing it. Kate seems limp and lazy in contrast.

Is there a job expectation that Kate do this? I know Kate does have a charity focusing on children and women. I tend to think it's not fair to hold Kate to Diana's standard (I am indifferent about Diana) and also Diana can immediately jump in when she's been born into the same aristocratic world. Kate, while bourgeoise, was not born and bred aristocracy.

I think she does love William in her own way, but if he'd been an accountant she wouldn't have looked at him. William seems petulant and arrogant, so she probably doesn't have an easy life with him.

Personally, I think that William and Kate have a good marriage and seem to love each other. I don't consider William to be petulant nor arrogant but tend to ascribe those traits to Harry. Because this is subjective, it is a matter of interpretation.

I largely do not care about the interpersonal drama of the royals but because I'm American, I have disdain for Meghan and her behavior when it badly reflects on Americans.

Yes, there is an expectation that the "working royals" work - which means everything from attending the opening of factories to being patrons of charities.

Princess Anne, daughter of the Queen, and Sophie, wife of Prince Edward, are hard workers too (well, for royals). I'm not sure if Sophie was born into the working class, but she is the daughter of a tire salesman, and went to secretarial school IIRC, so not from an aristocratic background, although, like many of the British, seems to have distant aristocratic ancestors. Kate does too.

Some of the Queen's now elderly relatives also chipped in and did all sorts of boring engagements.

Kate's work load has been light, but she is improving. She does have three children, but Diana had two and still packed in a a lot of work.

Meghan is just a con artist, IMO. I think some of the sentiment in the UK against her is anti-Americanism, but she does embody some of the worst traits of Americans, so I don't really blame the British, especially since they had to pay for some of her expenses.
